About your trip

Welcome nature lovers, curious adventures, and soul surfers...to a dive into the Osa Peninsula, an adventure and experience unknown to many where lush rainforest meets pristine beaches on the wild Southern Pacific Coast of Costa Rica.

The Osa Peninsula is one of the most healing, magnetic places on the planet. It is almost like taking a step into Avatar. Situated in one of the last lowland rainforests left in the world, it is lush and pristine and home to 2.5% of the world’s total biodiversity. That’s a lot of life. Rich and full of animals and insects and fauna all around you, many which are found nowhere else on the planet. You will swear some have never been documented.

Each day is an exploration and discovery of yourself, and also the natural environment we are immersed in. We typically bookend the day with invigorating and healing vinyasa yoga classes perfectly tailored to the group that gathers. Classes include a well-rounded, structured practice that sets the theme for the day, while including breath & meditation, and playfully includes mixed modalities of pilates, agility training, partner yoga, and non-linear movement.

Local excursions drop you in to the surrounding environs and culture, each day highlighting an opportunity such as surfing, jungle tree-climbing, waterfall rappel, river walks, boat trip on the Gulf Dulce, equine therapy and horseback riding, massage and healing bodywork.

Delicious, locally sourced cuisine punctuate the day to sustain your activities, adventures, or hammock time... Costa Rican coffee/ tea and local fruits available with the howler monkey's call for early risers, while Breakfast/ Lunch/ Sunset cocktails at the poolside bar/ Dinner are available at typical hours.

We will reside at Encanta La Vida Ecolodge where we are fully supported with a wonderful and knowledgeable staff, daily housekeeping, in-house chefs, poolside bar available all day, and walking distance to hiking trails, rivers, and a variety of world class, local surf breaks for differing levels. Learn or hone your surfing skills on warm waves while wildlife play amongst the trees lining beautifully rugged beaches.

Why the Osa Peninsula?

The Osa Peninsula is one of the most beautiful, wild, biodiverse places on the planet. Yes, it is literally at the end of the road...Off the pavement, off the grid, and about an hour away from the nearest town.

Step directly into Nature at her finest. No crowds, lines of people, or fences to keep you separate from your own intimate experience with Nature. Find secret waterfalls cascading through the jungle into refreshing, naturally formed swimming pools. Hike through the trees out to the exposed, south-facing coast. Soak in ancient tide pool bathtubs filled with warm salt water, right at the ocean's edge. Surf warm waves to stimulate your body, practice inspired yoga daily to stimulate your mind and open your heart. Enjoy being immersed in healing nature as you hone your own healing skills for body, mind, spirit. Matapalo is located just 8 degrees from the equator within primary rainforest and the largest, protected national park preserve in all of Central America. The raw energy and vibration of this land is powerful and precious, and awakens your natural state of connectedness with self and nature.

What is the vibe of the retreat?

Flow State: Where Nature Resets the Soul

A Jungle-to-Sea Retreat for Movement, Stillness, and Self-Discovery

Step into the rhythm of the wild—where the ocean meets the jungle and your breath meets your body.
This is a week to move with intentionexplore with curiosity, and reconnect with what matters most.

Each day begins and ends with yoga and embodied practices, designed to ground you, open you, and guide you inward. We blend mindful movement with agility sessions for surfers and movers, strengthening balance, core, and flow—on and off the board, and for how you live life!

Between practices, we venture out:
🌿 Hike or horseback ride to hidden waterfalls
🌊 Surf warm, rolling waves, enjoy a boat trip on the Gulf Dulce
🏝️ Explore wild and rugged beaches
🌞 Rest in nature, hammock, or saltwater soak

Evenings are for reflection, laughter, talking story, community, and connection—with circles under the stars, nourishing meals, and space to just be.

This isn’t just a retreat. It’s a return.
To presence. To play. To your natural state—your flow state.

What is the level for classes?

Each retreat is different, and each group that comes together is different. All classes are custom-tailored to the group that gathers. Each class is truly mixed levels, and we often open them up to the local community, so you will be practicing with folks who live in the neighborhood. Each practice offers a specific theme for the day, and a variety of options to accommodate levels, injuries, goals, intentions, etc. The short answer to this question is that the level is perfectly suited to YOU!

One of my favorite local excursions includes a horseback ride through the depths of the jungle with our beloved guide, Carlos. We start along the beach, then venture up a jungle path to a stunning vista overlooking the coastline. Keep an eye out for all four species of Central American monkeys, sloths, and vibrant scarlet macaws among other wildlife. Afterward, we’ll trek to a hidden waterfall for a refreshing dip before heading back... and Yes! We typically gallop on our way to the ranch!
