About this trip

Friuli Venezia Giulia (often shortened to Friuli) is a border region tucked between Slovenia and Austria where one will find the cultural imprints of all three countries.

That imprint - as you'll discover on our culinary journey by bike - is very much present in the regional cuisine. Over the years, this region has been occupied by various European powers and as such has developed a unique language and culture. The political border shifted a number of times while the physical border of the Julian Alps stood still and a timeless subculture typical of the practical life of mountain regions developed. On the other hand, the Adriatic coast has been bustling with trading activities since Roman times. On our Chef Bike Tour of Friuli Venezia Giulia, we'll see for ourselves both of these aspects with the Tagliamento River Valley and Collio wine production area in between.

This was one of the best cycling trips to Italy I have ever done (and I have done MANY)! Beppe is a fantastically gifted itinerary planner. This particular route is unusually scenic, varied and perfectly paced. The mountains, Barolo and truffles of Piemonte to the gorgeous sea air and vistas on the Ligurian coast with cycling museums, wine tasting and a stop along the way for chestnut gelato! The trip could not have been better planned or executed!

This is the second trip with Tourissimo that we have taken. This trip was an 11/10!!. I have been to the Piedmont region before and it is magical. The food and wine (obviously with the Borolo wines) is amazing. The trip from the Borolo region through the Apennine is without compare. They massive and gorgeous, with green everywhere, sparsely populated with amazing little towns dotted throughout. Castles, streams, lakes, very little car traffic, beutiful chesnut and other forrests, nocciolo forrests. There was a little feeling of Switzerland but with the people, food and drink of Italy. Then, to top it all off you arrive at the Ocean in the amazing towns of Liguira Finale, Laiguelia and San Remo. The italian riviera is spectacular. The mountains come right down to the ocean with stunning white marble and green hills. This is not a ride for beginners for sure, but the climbs are steady and can be done by people who train and are not professionals (speaking from a recreational 55 year old rider). That said there is alot of the days spent on the bike, which we throughly enjoyed. The food and accomodations were perfect. Loved the bike hotel at the end, great mix of people from all over the world. BEST TRIP EVER!!!

Dream trip. Everything from routes, hotels, meals, and guides was perfect. A trip for the senses, the views, the food and wine, the gravel roads, the wineries and producers, the farmlands and their products, the history and informative guidance provided was all top notch. Tourissimo and their team made this dream trip a reality. I just cant wait to book my next one with them, Sardinia perhaps to keep the indulgence and amazing riding as Tuscany delivered. Grazie Mille!!

This is the second time we have trusted Tourissimo travel with a major Italian trip, and yet again the trip exceeded our expectations. The guides were personable, attentive, and very accommodating. They tried their hardest to fulfill our requests, and that made this trip so unique and special. The focus of this specific trip is the cycling. There are some more challenging days, but that allowed us to see unbelievable scenery, and completely different landscapes and regions. The climbs are beautiful and very physically rewarding. The routes take you to more remote locations which offers less traffic and more picturesque places. I really loved the accommodations, and the wine and food were outstanding. There was a great variety of more upscale and down to earth options throughout the tour. We cannot wait for the chance to book our next Italian adventure with Tourissimo travel. We would not trust such significant and meaningful trips with anyone else.

It was an amazing trip. Great guides, great accommodations, food was delicious, wine even better! The cycling was challenging but the beautiful scenery (and an E bike) made the every day so very enjoyable :-).
