In this 7 days and 6 nights self-guided adventure you get to cycle from the lower parts of the Pyrenees and out to the azur blue Mediterranean. On the way you get to spend time in Girona, known for beautiful architecture, good cuisine and of course one of the main cycling hubs in Europe.
The trip is a mix of cycling days and days with time to explore towns and beach in your own pace in Catalonia.
You get to live in a remote, small mountain village that was built in medieval time. You will travel in a volcanic area that is protected so you get to move on quiet cycling tracks in nature. You get to explore Girona on your own and finally you get to the beatiful coast by the Mediterranean sea and can relax on your last day by the beach.
You have 3 cycling days of total 160 km (stages of 50/70/40 km) by either touring-/gravel-/or e-bikes. On the way, you stay in cozy and good standard hotels, where you stay 2 nights in each, so you get time to explore and relax.

You arrive and can check-in to the small family owned Hotel Cal Sastre in the afternoon. After exploring the cozy room and hotel, you can stroll around Santa Pau and enjoy the great views.
Santa Pau is a charming medieval village located in the Garrotxa volcanic region of
Catalonia, Spain. Known for its well-preserved historic architecture, Santa Pau features cobbled streets, ancient stone buildings, and a picturesque main square. Everything is literally just around a corner.
The village is surrounded by lush landscapes, including the nearby Natural Park of the Volcanic Zone, making it a perfect destination for nature lovers and history enthusiasts alike. You can explore its unique heritage and enjoy local culinary delights, such as the famous Santa Pau beans.
After exploring the village, you can perhaps enjoy a bath in the hotel's small outdoor pool or an aperitif in the bar.
In the evening, you enjoy your evening meal in the restaurant of the hotel, which is known for its good local cuisine. People travel from far away to visit it, and you are lucky to get to stay here, so you can just rest after a nice meal.

Today is a cycling day! You will get to enjoy a 50 km ride from a small village in the Pyrenees to Santa Pau.
In the morning, the local cycle tour operator will meet you at the hotel and transfer you to Llanars, where the bikes of your cycling week will be fitted for you.
Llanars is a tranquil village, nestled amidst lush greenery. You cycle through idyllic countryside towards a small town, Camprodon, where you'll descend gently, soaking in breathtaking vistas of the majestic Pyrenees.
From there, embark on a scenic ascent through fragrant pine forests to reach the
charming village of Sant Pau de Segúries, where historic stone buildings add to the
picturesque atmosphere.
Continue your journey through verdant valleys and along the crystal-clear waters of the Ter River, enjoying the changing scenery as you approach the town Olot, where the landscape transforms into the unique volcanic terrain of La Garrotxa, dotted with ancient volcanic cones and lush vegetation.
You end this day of cycling back in Santa Pau at Hotel Cal Sastre for a well deserved dinner and peaceful night.
After finishing your last full breakfast at Hotel Cal Sastre, it is time to jump on the bikes and head towards Girona. This is the longest route of this trip, covering 70 km.
You begin your journey by cycling towards Olot, where the landscape is characterized by unique volcanic terrain, dotted with ancient volcanic cones and lush vegetation.
From Olot, continue to Les Preses, a charming village nestled in the heart of the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park. Pedal onward to Sant Esteve d'en Bas, a picturesque village surrounded by verdant countryside. As you cycle through this idyllic landscape, you'll reach Sant Feliu de Pallarols, a quaint town with a rich history and stunning natural surroundings.
The route then takes you to Les Planes d'Hostoles, where you can enjoy a scenic beauty of the surrounding forests and rivers. Continue to Amer, a town known for its medieval architecture and peaceful ambiance. Next on the route is pedalling through rolling hills and serene landscapes towards Anglès. Anglès is a town that has a blend of historical charm and modern amenities.
Finally, your journey concludes in the vibrant city of Girona. Known for its well-preserved medieval architecture, Girona offers a wealth of cultural and historical attractions and high class gastronomy.
You can now park the bikes and check-in at the modern style Hotel Carlemany****, where you will spend the next 2 nights in the centre of Girona.

After two days of cycling, you get at day to discover vibrant city of Girona by foot.
Explore Girona's rich cultural and historical heritage, walk through the curving alleys in the old town, visit some of the historic buildings or simply sit in a café and do people (and bike) watching at one of the pretty squares.
You can begin your visit with the stunning Girona Cathedral, featuring the widest Gothic nave in the world. Wander through the ancient Jewish Quarter, which is one of the best-preserved in Europe, and discover its narrow, winding streets.
Stroll along the colorful houses lining the Onyar River and cross the iconic Eiffel Bridge, designed by Gustave Eiffel. Don't miss the Arab Baths, a remarkable example of Romanesque architecture.
Finally, take a leisurely walk along the medieval city walls for panoramic views of the city and surrounding landscape.
If you like shopping, you have nice shops in the city. You will not feel like a lone cyclist in this city! Girona is one of the most visited towns in Europe by cyclists. Hosting the gravel cycling race, the Traka, each year around first of May, a city where professional cyclists live and train, Girona is a must visit place for many road- and gravel cyclists. If you are looking for a new cycling outfit, you can surely find it in one of the many cycling clothes and -assoceries shops in the city centre.
Enjoy a good lunch and dinner in one of the many nice restaurants specialised in tapas and Catalan cuisine.
Stay one more night at Hotel Carlemany before you set off in the morning to the coast on the last cycling day.
Starting in Girona, you cycle out of the city buzz and continue your last 40 km journey to the Mediterranean.
Today is a day of peddling along green fields and visiting more quaint villages. First, you ride through Llambilles that offers serene rural landscapes and a peaceful atmosphere.
Next, you will reach Cassà de la Selva, a town rich in history and culture, surrounded by lush forests and fields. Enjoy the scenic views as you pedal through its charming streets.
From Cassà de la Selva, head towards Llagostera, a charming village, which is a blend of medieval and modern architecture. Take in the scenic countryside views as you cycle
through this beautiful area.
Pedal onward to Santa Cristina d'Aro, where you'll enjoy a serene atmosphere and picturesque landscapes. The route then takes you through Castell d'Aro, a historic town with narrow cobbled streets and a well-preserved medieval castle.
Finally, your journey ends at coast in Platja d'Aro, a lively coastal town on the Costa Brava. You will stay in a relaxed hotel, where you get a room with a beautiful seaview. You will enjoy Hotel Costa Brava*** for two nights. You can read about the hotel in the detailed itinerary.

After an active week of cycling, today is meant for relaxing and enjoying the wonders that Costa Brava have to offer.
In Platja d'Aro town, you can relax on its beautiful sandy beaches and swim in crystal-clear Mediterranean waters that have mild temperatures in most part of the year. Platja d'Aro is mainly a beach town, but you can also explore the shopping street and local markets.
If you would like to try a water activity, you can try water sports activities, such as kayaking, windsurfing, and snorkeling.
If you are curious for visiting more places at the Costa Brava, then there are several interesting places worth visiting nearby:
Palamós (8 km): A charming fishing town known for its seafood, particularly the famous
Palamós prawns. Stroll through its picturesque old town, visit the Fishing Museum, or
enjoy the lively harbor area.
Calella de Palafrugell (23 km): A beautiful, traditional fishing village with whitewashed
houses and a scenic coastline. Perfect for a leisurely day trip, it offers lovely beaches and a relaxed atmosphere. Don't miss the stunning botanical garden of Cap Roig nearby.
