Day 1: In the footsteps of gladiators and Berbers

Our first stop is the El Jem Amphitheatre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the third-largest Roman arena ever built, as well as the best-preserved in the world. Your multilingual guide will bring ancient history to life as you explore the underground passages where gladiators awaited their fate, before climbing the stone tiers to enjoy breathtaking views.

Next, we head south to Matmata, the legendary Berber village that served as the backdrop for The English Patient and Star Wars, with a brief coffee stop along the way. Discover the cave dwellings carved into the rock, meet warm and welcoming local hosts, and enjoy a included lunch in a traditional cave dwelling, sampling authentic olive oil and wild honey.

We continue on to Douz, the gateway to the Sahara, as the landscape changes from lush greenery to golden dunes. Settle into a desert camp, with time to

Free time for an optional quad bike ride or a camel ride at sunset. Watch the sun set behind the dunes, then enjoy a traditional evening of music and dance, with bread baked in the embers, followed by dinner and a night under the stars.

Day 2: A magical sunrise and mysterious oases

After breakfast, we head to Chott el-Jérid, the vast salt lake, to admire a magnificent sunrise over the Atlas Mountains, casting golden reflections across the salt crust.

Next, we visit the mountain oasis of Chebika, near Tozeur – a lush haven of palm trees and waterfalls nestled amongst rocky canyons. After a 1½-hour drive, lunch awaits you in Gafsa. We then continue on to Kairouan, Tunisia’s holy city, where we visit famous carpet workshops, enjoy a rooftop view of the Great Mosque of Oqba and stroll through the medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Finally, we return to your hotel, our hearts filled with unforgettable memories.
