We have a choice for you today, we will visit the 13th century Parkes Castle on the shores of Lough Gill on the border of Sligo/Leitrim counties. This is a Castle rich in history and sits on the shores of a beautiful Lough Gill. The drive there has amazing scenery. We will take a boat ride on Lough Gill where we will see the famous "isle of Innisfree" and other islands too! Then we will take a scenic drive around this lake and we end up at Tobernault Holy well. This is a very special place to visit where you will see how the Irish mixed paganism and Christianity. I will tell you about the history of this place and why it is special to the Irish.
Or you can choose to go to the Festival of Fire on the Hill of Uisneach.
We leave the hotel in the afternoon and take a drive to the sacred Hill of Uisneach. There we will be part of celebrating Bealtaine with the Festival of Fire. The Hill of Uisneach is an ancient ceremonial site. It consists of numerous monuments and earthworks—prehistoric and medieval —including a probable megalithic tombs and burial mounds, enclosures, standing stones, holy wells and a medieval road. Uisneach is near the geographical centre of Ireland and in Irish mytholoogy, it is deemed to be the symbolic and sacred centre of the island It was said to be the burial place of the mythical Tuatha Dé Dannan, and a place of assembly associated with the druids and the festival of Bealtaine. The festival starts at 5pm and goes on until about 11, so you can decide if you want to be there that long or not.
