 In the morning, drive on the winding Akuapim Ridge to visit the Aburi Botanical Gardens which was established in 1890 as a convalescent centre for the British Colonial officers governing the Gold Coast as Ghana was then known. Continue to visit and enjoy a hike to Boti Waterfalls. There are over 250 concrete steps that you must walk on before reaching this beautiful nature. Travel to Kumasi by air. Arrive and go on a city tour of Kumasi visiting the Okomfo Anokye Sword, National Cultural Centre and Prempeh II Jubilee Museum. Visit a few Ashanti craft villages to see the skill and imagination of local craftsmen using simple tools and traditional technology to produce breath taking artifacts and designs from which you may pick souvenirs for friends and family back home. Participate in Akwasidae festival where you will have the privilege to witness that Festival, but NO guarantee for a meeting with the Ashanti King. Visit a few Ashanti Craft villages. Travel to Elmina with stop at Assin Manso to visit the burial site of two former slaves from the U. S. and Jamaica whose remains were re-interred in August 1998 during Ghana’s first Emancipation Day Celebration. You will see the “Slave River” where enslaved Africans were washed before being confined in the Slave Castles to await shipment to the Americas and the Caribbean. Visit the Elmina Castle; a UNESCO World Heritage Site built in 1482 by the Portuguese. This castle was the first European structure built in sub-Saharan Africa. Breakfast and dinner included. Visit the Kakum National Park to experience one of Africa’s Canopy Walkways suspended 100 feet from the forest ground for a panoramic view of the flora and fauna of the remaining vestiges of the rainforest. In the afternoon, visit Cape Coast Castle which houses the West Africa Historical Museum for a guided tour. Cape Coast Castle is another UNESCO World Heritage Site, which was built in 1652 by the Swedes.  Attend a cooking workshop, after which you will be able to impress your friends and family for years to come with the traditional recipes you will learn. You will learn to make Ghanaian Jollof Rice, red- red and palava sauce. Sample some of Ghana’s most popular foods. Rest of day is free to relax on the beach. Breakfast and lunch included.
