Ghana is becoming the gateway to Africa for many African diasporas. This country is rich in landmarks that explore the history of the transatlantic slave trade, and cultural experiences that will leave you feeling connected with the Motherland. The year 2019 marked 400 years since the arrival of the first recorded enslaved Africans to reach Jamestown, Virginia. Who’s ready to visit Ghana “beyond the year of return”? We will have 8 days and 7 nights to explore Ghana’s rich historical culture, sprinkled with luxury and a little Ghanaian style turn-up. You will leave this trip ready to return next year!

All deposits and payments are NON-REFUNDABLE. Travel The Motherland strongly recommends you purchase a “Cancel for Any Reason” travel insurance policy, which will cover your non-refundable expenses for your trip, whether you cancel voluntarily or for any reason beyond your control.

Border Closure/Pandemic Refund Policy

We are monitoring the entry requirements for Ghana. If we must cancel the trip due to border closure or any large-scale disaster, you will receive a refund, or you can request to use the funds on future trips. We will notify you in advance if we must cancel under these circumstances.

Solo travelers will be paired with a roommate of the same sex. If a roommate is not available, you will be required to upgrade to single occupancy.

You will have some time to settle into your luxury accommodations. There will also be time set aside for you to get the finishing touches on your custom-made kente cloth outfit by the tailor if you arrive before 6 pm local time. After, we will enjoy a group dinner, then hit the town to enjoy Ghana's nightlife.

Afrochella
Get your afrobeat game up and bring your best Afrocentric outfit! We will head to Afrochella to enjoy this African-themed festival. Afrochella is filled with African music, fashion, vendors, food, fun, live performances, and appearances from international artists.

Cultural Exploration
Get ready to tour the city of Accra! We will be visiting all the historic landmarks in Accra including Independence Square, Kwame Nkrumah Memorial, Osu Castle, W.E.B DuBois Center, the Art Center, and Jamestown. Later that evening you can take the night at your own pace. You can hit the town with your new friends or relax by the pool at our luxury accommodations.

Shai Hills Reserve
We'll head to Shai Hills Reserve, this preserve is packed with local species, rich history, and rock formations. Get your hiking attire ready because we'll climb a small rock formation then later head to a beach resort for lunch and a scenic boat ride of the Volta River.

Village Life
Let's head to a local village where we will participate in a traditional naming ceremony, participate in a local drumming lesson, have a local cooking lesson, along with a few other village surprises.

New Years Eve Celebration
Use the day to explore some must-see places at your leisure. Ge your energy up because by night we will come together as a group for a New Year's Eve dinner followed by a celebration where we will toast in the New Year.

We have Returned
Today we will take an emotional tour to Cape Coast where we will visit the Slave Dungeon. Here we will visit "Door of No Return", which was the gateway for our ancestors to enslavement in the Americas, Caribbean, and Brazil. Later that day, we will head to Kakum National Park to tour the canopy walkway and hike their primary trail. By evening, we will check in to our s local resort in Cape Coast. Later that night, we will come together for our kente cloth-themed farewell dinner, where you can rock your customized kente outfit.

Say Goodbye
Last day in the motherland. After breakfast, we will depart from Cape Coast and head back to Accra. By night you should be heading to Kotoka International Airport for departure.
