AKWAABA-WELCOME

 Arrive in Accra, Ghana. You will be met at the airport by Tour guide representatives who will assist you with your transfer from the airport to your hotel. Enjoy a welcome drink at the hotel and participate in an orientation session. Enjoy a private VIP welcome reception.

ACCRA CITY TOUR – VISIT A TRADITIONAL AFRICAN MARKET

After breakfast, depart for a sightseeing tour of Accra, the Capital of

Ghana. Experience the city’s highlights during this Accra orientation. The

capital of Ghana since 1877, Accra is also the capital of the Greater Accra

Region. In addition, it’s the country’s most populous city. Travel through

the administrative and economic districts of Accra. Also, see the W.E.B.

Du Bois Center for Pan African Culture and the Independence/Black Star

Square. Learn about important events in Ghana’s history and the

country’s first president who helped lead Ghana to independence.

Continue your tour to The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, dedicated

to the legacy of Ghana's first President, Kwame Nkrumah, and his role in

African independence. The tour includes visits to Nkrumah's

mausoleum, a museum showcasing his life, his personal residence, the

eternal Flame of African Liberation, and beautifully landscaped gardens.

Learn about Nkrumah's early life, political career, and Pan-African

vision. End the day’s tour at the Arts Center, where participants can

sharpen their bargaining skills to shop for goods from Ghana and West

Africa in an open-air market. On display, you will see fabrics of different

materials, designs, colors and textures to purchase from.

CANOPY WALK WAY AND KAKUM RAIN FOREST – SLAVE DUNGEON EXPERIENCE

 

After breakfast, check out and head to Cape Coast through the historic Denkyira Kingdom to Kakum National Park, a surviving tropical rainforest. Choose a 2 km nature walk to explore exotic flora and fauna and their medicinal values or take a canopy walkway 40 meters above the forest floor.

Post lunch, tour Forts, Castles, and Slave Dungeons of Ghana. Uncover the story of the slave trade with a focus on Cape Coast Castle, initially built by the Swedes in 1653 and later taken over by the British. Learn about the intricate relationship between western slave traders and African tribes enabling the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Experience history up close in the castle's dungeons, imagining the harsh conditions endured by millions of Africans. The castle also houses the West African Historical Museum. 🏰🌳

SLAVE DUNGEON EXPERIENCE (ELMINA CASTLE) AND FISHING VILLAGE TOUR

 

After breakfast, visit Elmina Castle, also known as St. George’s Castle, built by the Portuguese in 1482. Learn about the relationship between western slave traders and African tribes in the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Witness the dark dungeons locals endured before the perilous Atlantic passage – a powerful reminder of the trade's inhumanity.

After lunch, explore Elmina, a picturesque fishing village with a gritty charm. Immerse yourself in the main industry – fishing! Meet local fishermen, learning about their trade and daily challenges. Then, join fish mongers demonstrating the stages of smoking fish in earthenware ovens, a unique experience in one of Ghana’s oldest trades. 🏰🎣

ELMINA - SLAVE RIVER – KUMASI CITY TOUR

 

After breakfast, check out and drive to Kumasi, the Ashanti Empire's seat, exploring the legacies of the famous Ashanti people. Stop at the former slave site in Assin Manso, including the “Donkor Nsuo” Slave River and market, the final transit point for many enslaved Africans. It serves as the resting place for ancestors returned from the USA and Jamaica.

Continue to Kumasi, visiting the Manhyia Palace Museum for firsthand insights into the Ashanti kingdom's history dating back to 1700. Drive through the city with monuments dedicated to the memory of the great Ashanti people. Your city tour includes the Kejetia market, the National Cultural Centre with the Prempeh II Jubilee Museum, and studios of brass makers, potters, and batik makers. 🏰🇬🇭

ASHANTI CRAFT VILLAGES

 After breakfast, depart your hotel and devote this day to visiting the three famous Ashanti craft villages; Ahwiaa, the wood carvers’ village, Ntonso, the home of Adinkra cloth, and Bonwire, the Kente weaving village. You will have an opportunity to see how African crafts are made and to buy directly from the artisans who make them. Afterwards, continue drive back to Accra.

ACCRA - LOME CITY TOUR

 After breakfast, check out of your hotel for Togo. Upon arrival, head

straight for a city tour of Lome. Drive by the Musée National (National

Museum), as well as the Place de I’ Independence (Place of

Independence, where the Independence Monument is situated). Visit

Grand Marche (Grand Market) and Marche des Feticheurs (Fetish

Market). Overnight in Lome.

LOME - ACCRA

 After breakfast, spend the morning at leisure relaxing. Later in the afternoon, check out of your hotel and drive back to Accra. In the evening, get ready for our beachside private dinner party!

Farewell Departure

After breakfast, spend the day shopping and doing last minute packing. At 5pm, check out of the hotel and transfer to airport for check-in and final departure back home.

About your organizer

Travel is in my blood. So, it was natural for me to become a travel agent. This was established early on because my father was in the army and we traveled quite a bit. Before the age of five, I had visited or lived in New York, Maryland, Hawaii, Colorado and Germany. My first job after college was working with American Airlines. I loved the travel perks!
