Please be sure to follow us on Instagram and join our Facebook community group: Jelani Women Travel

Jelani Women Travel is excited to offer its first travel experience since the start of the pandemic. Ghana has recently opened its borders to international air travel and we are looking forward to experiencing Ghana within the guidelines of new parameters. Please note this trip will be a new way of traveling and staying healthy. You will be provided with face coverings as they are mandatory to wear in public spaces.

Travelers arriving in Ghana by air must present a negative COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test conducted by an accredited laboratory in the country of origin not more than 72 hours prior to departure.

Upon arrival, each traveler must undergo a COVID-19 test conducted at the airport. This test carries a $150 fee to be paid by the traveler, and results will generally be available within 30 minutes. Travelers who test negative for COVID-19 will be allowed to enter Ghana with no quarantine requirement. Those who test positive for COVID-19 will complete arrival procedures with the help of airport health officials before transfer to Ga East Municipal Hospital for clinical assessment and management.

Travelers exiting Ghana will undergo temperature screening prior to departure and will be required to comply with the COVID-19 testing requirements of their destination.
Ghana’s normal visa requirements are in effect.

Upon payment of your deposit, there will be an option to purchase travel insurance through WeTravel. You do not have to use this particular company but travel insurance with a minimum coverage of $200,000 is mandatory.

Important: Remember to arrive in Accra (ACC) by 5PM on Dec 26, 2020 and depart anytime on Jan 2, 2021 for Ghana only. Currently Togo and Benin are not open to US Passport holders but that may change.

Please note: There are non-stop flights from the US to Ghana including Delta Airlines. If you are connecting through another country, be sure to check with your airline to ensure the country will allow you as a US passport holder to transfer.

Travelers will be able to access the following:

      -Detailed itinerary

-Virtual introductions with other women who will also be participating in our service trip (Note that our service day will be different than in the past as we will not be able to gather in large groups with the children. We will still be able to come together to deliver gifts and make an impact on an orphanage in need.)

-A safety conference call to discuss precautions the group will take to travel

      -FAQ document specifically for Ghana

-Do's and Don'ts list for international travel

      -Suggested packing list

There were 14 travelers scheduled to spend 7-10 days in Ghana, optionally in Togo and Benin. The journey began well before us arriving in Accra Ghana. Jelani Travel actively corresponded with this group to prepare for the trip - passports, visas, travel expectations and packing. Jelani Travel was also very responsive to inquiries and provided great advice. Our group of travelers stayed connected through a common "Whats App" group, often getting new communication, sharing photos, and much more. Upon arriving in Accra, Ghana, we were shuttled to the hotel and activities began that night with dinner. We had a complete itinerary of activities that allowed for eating, shopping, and exploring the richness and tenderness of Africa. We experienced the cuisine and the people. We found new friends and engaged in many conversations. We spent 7 days in Ghana (both Accra and Kumasi) - visiting cultural centers commemorating Kwame Nkrumah and W.E.B DuBois. We visited Cape Coast to visit the slave caves and more. We visited art centers and engaged with local vendors selling their wares and more. We dined at popular restaurants to taste the local cuisine. We walked the sands of Ghana. We participated in a naming ceremony and received our "birth" names. Many of us continued to Togo and Benin. We experienced local customs in Togo - voodoo practices and more food. After 1 day in Togo, we then traversed to Benin. In Benin, we further immersed in the African cultures and saw the quickly advancing center of Benin. Overall, the trip exceeded my expectations. Jelani Travel organized a great trip for both new and experienced travelers. There was adequate free time to indulge in the experience. The selection of meals was well received, allowing us to get the true "taste of Africa". We made new friends and found familiar stories to share. I look forward to using Jelani Travel on my next travel plans.

Had a wonderful time, the accommodations were stellar and the activities planned were a fulfillment of a dream. I especially liked the safari, visiting and learning about the maasai culture. The only thing I would change is more time in Nairobi.

Let me tell you, look no further! From start to finish, traveling with Jelani women exceeded all my expectations, alleviated all my fears & concerns as a first time 50+ solo traveling woman. I booked & traveled Egypt 2022 with such ease. Our trip ambassador was awesome. She was available and answered my many emails, created and provided a space for the booked travelers to communicate and stay connected as a group. It was our ambassador that kept us thoroughly informed of our itinerary, roommate assignments, projected costs of non included excursions and was readily available to troubleshooted & remedied any concerns or issue that anyone may have. Our itinerary for Egypt was masterfully curated as it immersed us in the magnificent sights, smells, tastes and culture of Egypt. At every turn, our knowledgeable tour guide captivated us with his knowledge of Egyptian history. His passion for touring and his love of his country was evident as we navigated through the museums, pyramids, tombs, temples and marketplaces. I enjoyed the convenience this tour provided. An absolute gem of this trip was not having to plan a single activities or places to eat. This took the anxiety, worry and stress away. I was a wonderful experience to only have to choose my clothing and footwear for the day, leisurely attend delicious, authentically prepared & flavorful meals and recapping our experiences with one another. Traveling with Jelani Women allowed me help the organization give back and support communities and children. Jelani Women gave me an experience that I will never forget. My late grandmother shared her beautiful photos of when she travelled to Egypt in 1981. Tracing, recreating her photos and securing a cartouche like hers, brought me much closer to her spirit, something that I didn’t think was ever possible. The time saving component of this trip allowed me to meet, mingle, laugh, learn and share with some of the most amazing, intelligent, interesting, beautiful, energetic, funny and overall DOPE BLACK WOMEN this planet has to offer. Being around and with them on this trip had me frequently smiling and proudly saying “We are the Bomb & I love Being a Black Woman”. It was on this trip I realized how profound divine intervention I and this was no accident. I am truly thankful for the person who referred me to Jelani Women. I have and will continue to pay it forward by recommending & referring Jelani Women to everyone who wants to have a soul touching, educational and socially conscious travel experience that they will never regret. Thank you Jelani Women for curating and affordable opportunity and the memories. I am already planning & looking forward to booking my next memorable travel experience with Jelani Women Travel.
