If motherland has been on your mind, bringing in the New Year in Ghana is one of the best experiences you can have in Africa! This will be a journey full of culture, history and fun, all-in-one as Ghana night-life is being dubbed the new Ibiza!
This eight day experience will bring you from the diaspora back to where our ancestors once thought they would never return. A very full circle moment to be proud of if you ask me! We have been welcomed back home where we will participate in ceremonies that allow us to be given our African name and walk back through the "Door of No Return" to reclaim what was taken from thousands of enslaved Africans. While we will have fun, this is most importantly guaranteed to be a connection to West Africa that takes you back to your roots in a meaningful way.
We will visit the bustling markets, original slave castles and walk the pathways our ancestors used as they were taken from Africa. Your taste buds are guaranteed to come alive eating the savory local foods as well. We will experience boat rides on the water, ATV through beautiful gardens, dance to Afrobeats in the bustling nightlife, admire amazing coastlines and so much more!
Most of all, we will ring in the New Year together, in our home!
One of the biggest events in Ghana and the New Years Eve celebration is known worldwide! Some say it’s bigger than Ibiza!! The parties don’t stop, time is not a thing in Ghana! (Click the link to see what I mean). Many major events are happening simultaneously like Afrochella and Afrofuture in addition to all the New Year festivities! It’s just none stop engagement!!
But the best part, IT’S BLACK AF!!! It’s US, having a good time together, singing, dancing, eating, exploring and enjoying the motherland as our ancestors wanted us to!
Some of the who’s who’s of Africa and of the culture will be on the continent and in Ghana so start saving ya coins NOW cause they are going to LIVING!!!
Oh, and “detty” is just the African accent of the English word “dirty.” It’s just another way of saying it’s going to be lit!! lol
Yes it is. You can either purchase a room to yourself, or be paired with a same-sex roommate if you want to save some money and book the double occupancy price. The room will have two bedrooms (not just two beds in a room) and two bathrooms (one in each room).
There are five packages. The room setups are either two bedrooms or one bedroom. There is a three bedroom option I can add for anyone who needs it!
The two bedrooms options allow you to choose to split the accommodation between four people (two to a bed/room) or between two people (one to a bed/room). Every room has it's own bathroom.
The one bedroom options allow you to room alone or have two people sleep in one bed.
The “same itinerary, no accommodations” option means you can do everything we do, you just find your own place to stay. We are staying at a 4.5 star accommodation which will be costlier because December is the month everything in Ghana costs more than normal!!
If you find a cheaper place to save on your trip (start looking NOW), you can meet us for breakfast each day (all your same meals will be covered) to start the same itinerary (all activities covered) and have just as much fun as you would if we all were staying at the same place! You still get all the photos you want from the photographer, you use all the same transportation across Ghana that we use, you can come to the welcome dinner and farewell breakfast (or dinner, haven't decided which one I want yet), you do EVERYTHING we do, you just get your own place to stay.
Reach out to me! I can make adjustments to the packages as long as they are still available or add some if I can accommodate a larger group!
Please know that the itinerary is subject to change based on weather or any circumstances out of our control.
Activities may be moved to different days based on the schedule we feel best suits the group the closer we get to the trip but will not take away from the experience of the celebration at all.
If any changes are made you will be made aware in advance.
Keep in mind that you are attending one of the busiest, if not the busiest, seasons in Ghana so prices for everything are through the roof! It's not cheap to come to Ghana regardless, but it can be cheaper than December. Although pricier, it is well worth it for the experience.
I searched prices of several competitors and they are easily charging $500 to $1000 more than my trip. Knowing my Ghana contacts personally, I spent weeks in the country getting to know the right people and deciding what was needed and what was not for the trip to save you some money.
It is easy to get scammed anywhere in the world and Ghana is no exception. You can be taken out for a tour two hours away from your accommodation and have no driver to take you home if they have an opportunity to make money while waiting for you to come back from your tour. Although the country has come a long way, poverty is still very prevalent and people are just trying to live and feed their families!
YES, you can finance this trip through Uplift for up to 24 months! Fill out the application here that I will submit to Uplift for you!
You will receive a link from Uplift once I submit your basic trip needs to input your personal information for financing approval.
Our initial release is refundable. If we do not get enough attendees by the cut off date to make the first deposit, your payment will be fully refunded minus $250 for non-refundable fees.
If we get enough attendees by the deadline, your trip is non-refundable once payments have been made and the trip is officially happening. Once we start paying vendors we can’t get those funds back. Refunds only happen if the host cancels the trip with the exception of a $250 fee per person that the host is charged by the vendors that is non-refundable on their end.
Travel insurance is STRONGLY recommended to cover yourself in case you can not make the trip for any reason and to get your money back. We will refer you to the best travel insurance company with a "cancel for any reason" policy. This information will come in a follow-up email once the deposit has been made.
You will fly into the Kotoka International Airport, airport code ACC.
This is where you will need your yellow fever vaccine and visa in addition to your passport. There are times the vaccine and visa can be obtained on site during busier seasons in Ghana which we will keep you updated on if you haven't gotten yours in advance.
We are a little different from your typical travel company. The founder, Candace Blair, is an adventure lover so she creates her trips to include once in a lifetime excursions for those that like to live on the wild side and try things they’ve never done before. She actually goes to the destinations before hand, sees everything in person, does all the excursions, eats all the food and adds or removes things from the itinerary that she feels you will or won't like. It is a very customized experience!
Most travel clubs, rightfully and understandably, play it safer when creating group trips and stick to the more touristy things. While there will always be some must do activities everywhere you go, stepping outside your comfort zone will always be an option with Candace. She likes to go where the locals go and do what the locals do! This may sometimes take you a couple hours away from the main city but it's always going to be worth it!
We prefer to go off the beaten path and add a little more adrenaline to the trip in some way while still getting the full experience of every country we travel to.
We are also a smaller travel club that gives a more intimate setting and allows for less overhead fees on most trips so that we can offer a more competitive rate for the same experiences around the world as our larger counterparts.
Price is per person. NOT FOR SOLO TRAVELERS!!
This package is for those who want to room with friends/family/couples and have four people to room with to reduce costs. You will be greeted with a traditional Ghanian welcome dance at the airport, picked up by our warm hospitality team who will be with us the whole way and taken to your apartment. Your luggage will be taken care of by the transport team.
Please let your host (Candace) know if you need anything in your fridge or personal items at least two days in advance of arrival minimum but the sooner the better. Our team will find it for you in the city and based on cost, let you know how much additional it will be. Everything is mostly found in the market for a minimal amount unless you need things that are imported from a local store which can be more expensive if it can not be found from local vendors.
We will have our welcome dinner outside of the apartment complex with reservations at an Accra local favorite and enjoy a little of Ghana's nightlife if desired. Partying after the dinner will be at your own expense.
