Challenge and change your perspective. Go beyond Tanzania's famed safaris to explore the natural tensions for this growing country and its young population. Our seven days/six nights in Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar's Stone Town will make you see Africa differently. As an example, read about Maasai Prince, whom we'll meet on our 2019 adventure. That's what is unique about Global Leadership Trips . We connect to the economic and cultural beat of a country. We meet entrepreneurs and leaders whose visions illustrate their country’s economic and social trajectory. Specialized experiences help us better understand culture and history. A cornerstone of each Trip is a dive into a country’s educational landscape with Room to Read. We visit schools and meet with teachers, mentors, and students, as well as Room to Read’s in-country staff. We do all this as a small, curious-minded community. Your engagement is key. As trip curator, I weave each person's experience and goals into the experience.
Between once-in-a-lifetime safaris and Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania offers much to explore. We recommend arriving in Tanzania or East Africa a few days early to alleviate jet lag and enjoy the region's famed tourist offerings. Once versed in some basic Swahili and settled into the culture, you'll be ready to launch into an exploration of this dynamic country's present and future.

The passport and any other required travel documents are to be presented along with the appropriate visa to the Immigration Control Officer at any entry point, such as border station, airport or harbor. U.S. citizens may now obtain a tourist visa for Tanzania online (Tanzania Online Visa) or upon arrival at a port of entry staffed by immigration officials. On arrival visas are subject to processing times (perhaps 30-45 minutes) so you may choose to obtain your visa in advance of travel. U.S. citizens will pay $50 USD for a visa (cash or Visa/ Mastercard).
We highly encourage U.S. travelers to register with the U.S. Government Smart Traveler Enrollment Program by visiting the STEP website and to review the U.S. Department of State Tanzania Overview.
Medical Recommendations and Immunization Information
All trip participants should visit their doctor at least 4-6 weeks in advance of their departure date. Participants should ask their doctor for recommendations about malaria pills and other travel medications and immunizations.
If traveling from certain countries, travelers will need to show proof of Yellow Fever immunization. If you are traveling to another country before Tanzania, please be aware of this.
Please note that Zika is endemic in Tanzania, and the risk to travelers is unknown but likely lower than in areas where Zika is newly introduced and spreading widely.
For more information on immunizations either recommended or needed for travel to Tanzania, please visit the Center for Disease Control and Prevention website.
Travel Insurance
We recommend that participants purchase travel insurance, or ensure their regular insurance plans cover travel-related illnesses and injuries. Insurance must cover personal injury, medical expenses, repatriation expenses, and evacuation expenses. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to see what is already included in your plan. We strongly recommended you also obtain coverage for trip cancellation, interruption, curtailment, and for personal property.
International SOS offers membership to a complete network of travel assistance including travel advice, medical assistance overseas, and a global ‘911’ service including emergency medical evacuation. Sign up at least one day in advance of your trip. Membership is generally under $15 USD/day. Other recommended providers include World Nomads, Redpoint Resolutions and AIG Travel Guard®.
