After a private transfer from Madrid to Granada through the lands of Don Quixote de la Mancha, we will arrive at the Geopark of Granada, where before checking into a cave hotel, we will have time to get to know the troglodytic peculiarities of this magical part of Granada.
Today you will live a full day in which you will not miss imposing castles, a beautiful typical Andalusian village and a visit to an olive oil mill that has been in operation since Roman times.
Walking or mountain biking: it is the time to explore in an active way a suggestive land full of dolmens and megaliths, where magic seems to continue to permeate a territory of the most unique, geologically and culturally.
Ready to enjoy one of the best starry skies in Spain?
Today we will hike to the peak of Chullo which, at 2,610 m altitude, is the highest peak in the province of Almeria. The route is easy walking or snowshoeing, depending on the conditions, with some steep slopes. Its ascent will allow us to enjoy a landscape and breathtaking views of the entire profile of Sierra Nevada that we will cross the following days.
We are in Laroles, a small and picturesque village in the easternmost sector of the Alpujarras, known as “Las Alpujarras Ocultas”.
We have an appointment with Antonio Yebra, known in the area as Toño, and who can boast of being the last cowboy of Sierra Nevada, the witness of a world that is disappearing little by little. Together with him we will spend several days on horseback in the Sierra Nevada, the terrain he knows so well and that will take us between white villages, old roads and mountain passes to the same mountain shelters he uses when working with his cattle.
We will complete the second stage of the route on horseback in Sierra Nevada guided by Toño between ridges, ravines and trails of Sierra Nevada. But we will not only enjoy the scenery, it will also be an opportunity to learn in an active way traditions, ways of life, trades and ancient knowledge that are extinct.
In the afternoon we will move to the best known sector of the Alpujarras, the villages at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada that served as a refuge for the Moors when they were expelled from Granada in 1492. There awaits us a first contact with the famous white villages, where we will enjoy a discovery walk before dinner and rest in our apartments, hotel or cortijo.
The great Spanish poet Antonio Machado said of Granada: “All cities have their charm, Granada has its own and that of all the others”. Surely yesterday you already had time to start checking it out, but today it's time to explore the best Nasrid legacy to the city: the magical Alhambra.
The Alhambra - World Heritage Site - is a monumental complex of ancient palaces, gardens and fortresses. Its beauty will captivate you.
It is time to relax and enjoy an experience that purifies the body and spirit in an Arab Hammam, a steam bath in a center inspired by the ancient baths of Al-Andalus. But there's more! In the evening, we walk through the Albaicín, enjoying a tour of taverns and tapas in the city. Did you know that Granada is the most famous city in Spain for its tapas?
We return to the capital of Spain by roads between olive groves, seas of olive trees. We will take advantage of our lunch stop to visit Úbeda, a city declared World Heritage of Humanity thanks to its rich Renaissance, Mudejar and Roman legacy.
Now we hope and wish that all your tears will be tears of joy. We are sure that Granada already has a place in your hearts.
