As we depart via ferry on June 21st, most women will choose to arrive a day early. Arriving early will also give you an opportunity to explore this iconic city before our official trip begins.
We will organize a hotel block and a rooftop dinner in Athens for those who are interested.
Our group will depart together from the hotel for Syros the following morning.
We will leave Athens together and head to the Piraeus port where we will take a high-speed ferry to Syros.
One of the Cyclades Islands, Syros is both cosmopolitan and traditional. Off the typical tourist path, Syros offers a more traditional Greek experience coupled with stunning beaches, impressive architecture and a fabulous dining scene.
Welcome to the cosmopolitan capital of Syros! We will head to brunch where we will hear from our Greek partner.
Then there will be free time in the city. Enjoy strolling and shopping in the main plaza, Miaoli Square and the impressive harbor. Keep an eye out for loukoumi, a traditional Greek treat.
After checking into our waterfront hotel, we will meet at Mazi, a hip restaurant with a hidden garden. We'll enjoy a hands-on cocktail-making class before sitting down to our official welcome dinner with our new friends.
We will enjoy breakfast at our beautiful waterfront hotel before heading out for an exciting day on the water.
Today we explore Syros from the sea! We will board two modern, private speedboats.
We will stop at two or three beautiful points for swimming, snorkeling, or simply relaxing.
A traditional home-cooked meal with fresh bread, salads, local dips and a main dish will be served along with local wine. We will for sure cheers to this special day!
Return to the hotel in the late afternoon and enjoy a free evening.
After breakfast at the hotel, we will transfer to the hilltop village of Ano Syros.
This traditional village swathed in pops of color against whitewashed buildings with the sea peeking out will take your breath away. Ano Syros was first established in the 13th century and is truly picture perfect. Keep your camera out as we enjoy a walking tour through the winding paths.
After the walking tour, stop for lunch at a traditional restaurant in Ano Syros, shop and explore this adorable village.
On all Somewhere Sunny trips we give back in some way to the local community. After Ano Syros, we will make our way to the project we support.
We have reservations tonight at a sophisticated restaurant with an iconic view of the sea for those who are interested in joining in.
After breakfast, we say farewell to the Island of Syros as we make our way by ferry to the island of Ikaria. Ikaria is famed as one of only five Blue Zones in the world, known for the longevity of its residents and its distinctive local lifestyle.
Transfer to Christos Raches, a cute little village on the island. Enjoy free time for shopping and optional lunch at one of our favorite local restaurants.
After lunch we will check into our local hotel in Armenistis, a picturesque fishing village. Rest up because we have a big night ahead!
Tonight will be one of the most special experiences of the entire trip-a traditional Ikarian panigyri. We will make our way to the little village where hundreds of locals will be gathered. We will enjoy live music, homemade food, and the best part-dancing with the locals! Ikaria’s panigyris are said to be the best in the whole country.
After breakfast we will head to the stunning local beach of Mesakti for sunning, swimming and relaxing.
Dry off because we are headed to the forest! We will take a short walk to a peaceful forest clearing with glimpses of the sea through the trees. Kostas, a local instructor, will lead us through yoga under the forest canopy.
After yoga, we will walk to the fishing village of Gialiskari and for anyone interested, we will have lunch at one of the tavernas on the island.
In the evening we will gather at sunset at a local winery to enjoy wine and tapas together as a group.
After a leisurely breakfast, we will head to the Karimalis, a 500-year-old family-owned organic vineyard. Here we will participate in an incredible cooking class with the longevity experts featured in the Blue Zones Netflix documentary in their home.
While making 3-4 local dishes, we’ll learn about the diet and lifestyle that has promoted world-renown longevity in Ikaria.
As we sit down at this stunning location to enjoy the fruits of our labor, we will enjoy an organic wine right from the farm.
After a beautiful time spent with the Karimalis family we will head back to Armenistis where you can do some final shopping or relax at our waterfront hotel.
After an incredibly special week together we will gather for a farewell dinner with our new friends and our Greek partner at a favorite local restaurant, Mary Mary.
Enjoy one last breakfast in Ikaria.
We will then make our way as a group to the airport in Ikaria before boarding our flights to Athens.
