In the 16th century restored settlement of Milia, rooms preserve the architecture and aesthetic style of the mountainous area of Western Crete. Reconstructed with attention to detail, they hold something of the atmosphere, the remembrance, and imprint of its former inhabitants. Just being here and letting be absorbed by the history of this land is a remarkable way of spending your days, away from anything that could remind you of crowds and noise. The settlement also features a sustainable, environmentally friendly know-how that has been prevalent since its restoration 30 years ago, with solar panel energy provision, biological waste treatment etc.
In this first day of our weekly retreat, we are being offered a group transfer from the city of Chania to Milia at 13:00 local time. We will arrive at Milia Mountain Retreat after a 70’ drive following the northern littoral and then through the gorgeous Topolia gorge. Note that the last part of the itinerary includes some 10-15’ minutes on dirt road.
Following the check-in, we will meet to get together as a group and know each other, to connect with the Cretan Land and be guided by the environmentally and culturally sensitive owners to the restored medieval settlement Milia Mountain Retreat. We open-up our hearts for this experience of Green Wellness, at an altitude of 900 meters in an amazing, tiny valley. We are strolling through the stone-paved paths of the settlement and learn about its pioneer restoration process, appreciating the remarkable result.
At 17:30 we are having our common welcome dinner, at the cozy and atmospheric restaurant of Milia. Raise your glasses and greet “Ya mas” (Cheers!) along with your hosts and fellow travelers.
