Guatemala during Semana Santa is unlike anywhere else on Easter, and this trip is built around it. You'll spend Holy Week in Antigua, a UNESCO World Heritage colonial city, while it fills with elaborate hand-made carpets of dyed sawdust and flowers (alfombras) and hooded processions that wind through the cobblestone streets for hours at a time.
In between, we'll summit Acatenango with a 4x4 assist that cuts about 3 hours off the usual hike, so you spend less time grinding uphill and more time enjoying it. We'll also boat-hop across the villages of Lake Atitlán, spend a full day unwinding at a volcano-view wellness retreat, and wander a Lord of the Rings-themed park in the hills for good measure.
This is a small group trip for 6 travelers, planned to balance real adventure with genuine downtime by the lake. Private transfers and guided tours are all handled ahead of time, so you can just show up and be there.

Arrive into Guatemala City (GUA) and meet your private transfer for the scenic drive to Antigua, about 45 to 60 minutes. Settle into your accommodations and get your first look at the city's cobblestone streets and colonial architecture. Rest of the day is free.
We will meet at 6pm for a welcome dinner (included) at Rincón Típico. This is a great spot for classic Guatemalan grilled chicken.
A 4-hour guided walking tour through Antigua's colonial core. Stops include Parque Central, the Santa Catalina Arch, the ruins of La Merced Church, and Cerro de la Cruz for a panoramic city viewpoint, plus either the ruins of San Francisco Church or Convento de las Capuchinas. We'll also swing by the local market and squeeze in a quick chocolate tasting. Note that this is Good Friday, so a few sites may run modified hours due to Semana Santa observances.
Depart Antigua midday for Acatenango. Instead of the usual multi-hour uphill slog, a private 4x4 truck takes you most of the way up, leaving just a 45-minute hike to reach base camp. Once there, you'll have front-row views of neighboring Volcán de Fuego erupting after dark. For anyone who wants to get even closer, there's an optional hike toward Fuego; otherwise, watching the show from base camp is plenty. Hiking gears included
Wake for sunrise above the clouds, then descend and head back to Antigua by early afternoon. After the hike, the rest of the day is open for rest, a massage, or just relaxing before taking in Guatemala's most famous Semana Santa processions and alfombras, a fitting close to Holy Week in one of the best places in the world to experience it.
3-hour private transfer from Antigua to Lake Atitlán. Check into your lakeside accommodations and spend the afternoon settling in, with volcano views across the water as your backdrop.
full day exploring Lake Atitlán by private boat, with breakfast included to start the morning. First stop is San Juan La Laguna, known for its art galleries, traditional weaving techniques, and a women's weaving cooperative, plus a visit to the town's Catholic church. From there, a stop in San Pedro La Laguna, a small but multicultural lakeside town worth a wander. The day continues to Santiago Atitlán, notable for its role in Guatemala's political history during the internal war and its own distinct weaving traditions. Lunch is on your own along the way, with plenty of local spots to choose from.
A full day pass to Eagle's Nest, a volcano-view wellness retreat above the lake. That includes unlimited yoga classes and workshops all day, access to a traditional wood-fired sauna and cold plunge pool, and all gear provided. The rest of the day is free to explore the lake at your own pace, and Reserva Natural Atitlán near Panajachel is a good option nearby, with nature trails, a butterfly sanctuary, ziplines, and waterfalls for anyone who wants to stay active.
Private transfer back to Antigua. Afternoon and evening free for last-minute souvenir shopping, coffee, and a relaxed dinner in the city.
A half day at Hobbitenango, a whimsical hillside park inspired by The Shire, with panoramic volcano views, photo spots, and games. Evening free.
Private transfer from Antigua to Guatemala City Airport (GUA) for your flight home.
Hi, I’m Mindy
By day, I’m a doctor, but outside of work, you’ll usually find me planning my next trip, on a plane, or helping someone else get theirs booked.
Travel has always been more than just a hobby for me, it’s something I genuinely love. I’ve explored 25+ countries (and counting), hosted group trips, and planned countless itineraries for friends, family, and now clients who just want someone to take the stress out of it all.
I know how overwhelming planning can feel: coordinating people, budgets, flights, hotels, and trying to make it all actually happen. That’s where I come in. I turn “we should go on a trip” into a real, booked, and organized experience.
Whether it’s a girls trip, a romantic getaway, or a big group adventure, I’m here to make it easy, fun, and something you’ll actually follow through on.
Let’s get you there
