About this trip

This trip, hosted in collaboration with Nate of Nate Meets World, is designed for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts who are looking for a truly off the beaten path experience. During your time in Guatemala, you will have hike various volcanoes and even do a three-day trek from Quetzaltenango to Lake Atitlán!

While this tour centers on hiking an outdoor activities we've made sure to fuse in some cultural immersion and educational activities along with some time to grab a beer at one of Antigua's premium breweries or relax in natural hot springs.

This trip is for people who are physically ready for multiple days of hiking, including, numerous volcanoes with steep inclines set at high altitudes. At times our lodging and meals situation will be on the more basic side as we will be in more remote and rural parts of Guatemala. In addition to hiking, this trip is also designed to give you a deeper understanding of Guatemalan history and culture and to support small local businesses!

The Heart of Travel was born out of a deep-rooted love and passion for travel, art, history, food, nature, culture and adventure as well as a call to give back to the communities and people that had already provided us with so much. The travel industry has long been bombarded with double decker tour busses, beach front resorts and cruise ships, often at the expense of the local communities. As a response to this failing system, we began a boutique travel company that allows clients to explore new places in an authentic and non-touristy way, offering travelers a more intimate and unique experience all while removing the stress and hassle of researching, planning, bargain hunting, reserving and more that goes along with planning a trip or vacation.

I thoroughly enjoyed my 11-day/10-night trip to Guatemala and highly recommend Heart of Travel. The itinerary Chelsea planned for me was perfect. The pricing was very reasonable. Her communication and support before and during the trip was exceptional. She went above and beyond in helping me solve a couple of SNAFU’s of my own making. I look forward to traveling again with this company in the hopefully not too distant future. I consider myself a well-traveled (104 countries), fairly adventurous, 61-year-old. My previous trips have ranged from completely self-planned to high-end travel companies, solo to small group. I seek unique, authentic experiences. Probably more so than most travelers my age, I enjoy being active and even physically challenged. However, like most travelers my age, I have become old and spoiled and place great value in a good night’s sleep in a comfortable bed in a safe environment.

This trip exceeded my already high expectations. The itinerary was planned and crafted with such care to allow for an immersive experience. Chelsea and the Heart of Travel allow you to experience Guatemala like a local while touching on the experiences all tourists want to have. Chelsea welcomed us to Guatemala with open arms and we left with full hearts. An 11/10 experience; highly recommend.

We had an amazing trip with Heart of Travel! We were able to experience things we would have never been able to do without their help. Our hike up Volcan Acatenango was an exertion we will never forget. Heart of Travel took care of the details for us, making the trip smooth and simple on us. I highly recommend booking an experience with them.
