About this trip

The Short Inca Trail is a 2 day Inca Trail trek. On day 1, you’ll join the Inca Trail at Km 104 and hike up towards Winay Wayna. Visit these Incredible Inca ruins – the most impressive on the entire Inca Trail! – before continuing on to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku). You’ll have your first glimpse of Machu Picchu from here. There is a lot of uphill walking on this trek, over the stone steps first laid by the ancient Inca. Along the way, you’ll enjoy spectacular vistas and a wealth of flora and fauna all along the Short Inca Trail. Bypassing Machu Picchu itself, you will walk or take the bus down to Aguas Calientes, to spend the night in a hotel.

On Day 2, take the bus back up to Machu Picchu to explore this fascinating site. You’ll have a guided tour in the citadel and after lunch head back to the train station to start your journey back to Cusco.

Trekkers Wanted! Join Albert in this trek to visit Machu Picchu through the 2-day Inca Trail and explore a trip of a lifetime!

Our mission is to getting you off the beaten track and into the mountains, experiencing the best the Andes has to offer and catching a glimpse of the REAL Peru.

Apus Peru is a top notch group! Unfortunately our trip around Ausangate was cut short due to an illness with someone in our group. Apus Peru was prepared to deal with the situation and got us out safely. They also took great care with us to reschedule the remainder of our time to make the most effective use of the rest of our vacation to the area. Hebert and Henna went above and beyond to help us. We were sad to leave the Ausangate route because up to that point the comfort of the camp facilities and the food they prepared was beyond expectations!

This was exactly what we hoped it would be and more. Our tour guide and driver were fantastic and so flexible and caring! We felt well taken care of for the whole trip which allowed me to relax and just enjoy rather than worry about the details. We got a great mix of seeing the sights, learning about the history, and meeting people who live in Peru today. Our guide was very honest which we appreciated and didn't try to sugarcoat or play up any of the histories. Both our guide on Maniti and our guide, Mario with Apus Peru were incredibly knowledgable and excellent at their job. What an adventure! Thank you so much.

The trip exceeded our expectations on many levels. Our guide Grecco and the porters were very attentive and responsive. The pre-trip communications preparing us beforehand were excellent. The food was delicious, healthy, hearty and presented like we were at a white tablecloths establishment. Overall we would give them our highest recommendation.

We travelled with our kids (8 and 6). We got tailored tour where the agency greatly mixed cultural experience with fun and hiking exercise. The time we spent with the weaving community in Huaran was very personal, pleasant and felt welcoming. The ladies that weave took us for a walk in the valley, showed us few magics with what plants, flowers or even parasites they use for colouring. Then they showed how they weave and invited us for very nice home made lunch. We also stopped at an animal sanctuary where our kids could see the puma and Andean condors. When the condor flew above our head it was mystical. We had great accommodation for the overnight. The other day our bus driver took us to the Rainbow mountain. The hike was great. It was exactly the height us and our kids managed despite the high altitude.
