The Cerro Blanco Protected Forest has more than 240 species of registered birds. In 1998 Birdlife International declared Cerro Blanco as the First Area of Importance for the conservation of Birds on the Ecuadorian Coast. Of the 240 registered bird species, 30 have ranges of Limited distribution and 24 are endemic to the Tumbesian Region.

Nature Reserve:

Cerro Blanco is a 6,078-hectare private reserve of tropical dry forest on the ecuadorian coast, located in the chongón colonche mountain range at km 16 on the road to the coast. The largest lung and the best-preserved remaining extension of dry forest in guayaquil Biodiversity Our natural wealth lies in having more than 700 species of vascular plants; 20% are endemic to the tumbesian region in southwestern Ecuador.

More than 54 species of mammals, 24 species of bats, and more than 240 species of birds have been recorded we are also home to 22 species of reptiles, 8 species of amphibians, and much biodiversity yet to be discovered and studied. The fauna has endemic representatives, some of which are globally threatened, such as the jaguar, saffron flyfish, grey-backed hawk, and the Guayaquil parrot, among others. Buena Vista Trail - Pick up 07H00 AM

The hike takes approximately one hour, covering about 1,100 meters, and is divided into two sections. The first part follows a section of the mountain with gentle slopes and rocky paths where you can appreciate the native vegetation of the dry forest, as well as viewpoints offering beautiful scenery. The second part takes you through a restored forest where environmental interpretation has been enhanced.

Canoa Trail - Pick up 07H00 AM

This approximately 1.5-hour hike includes several viewpoints offering breathtaking views of the natural forest. Most of the trees are giants, creating a cool climate along the trail.

Many sections of the trail consist of stone steps, and its main attraction is the seasonally flowing Canoa Creek.

Higueron Trail- Pick up 06H00 AM

Approximately 3 hours walk, this walk involves an ascent to 350 meters above sea level, where you will discover and appreciate the rich biodiversity of the forest.

There are several viewpoints with beautiful views. This hike requires considerable physical effort and good health.

Due to the difficulty of the trail and weather conditions, it is recommended to start as early as possible and no later than 9:30 a.m. m.

Howler Monkey Trail - Pick up 06H00 AM

This hike, approximately 4 to 5 hours long, is a continuation of the Higuerón Trail and leads to the mountain summit, where the trails are marked. At this point, there is an area offering views of the eastern side of the forest.


Half-day and full-day birdwatching tours- Pick up 07H00 AM
