Great day. Terrific guide (Antonio) who was knowledgeable and generous with his time. Great, comfortable vehicle, and everything felt very secure and well planned.

In regards to this bike tour, I would rate this mediocre. It's really a van tour of the Mayan & Yucatan culture and history. Of the 750 miles traveled, only about 200 miles is with a bike. A lot of the roads that we cycled were main thorough fares with limited scenic interests. I enjoyed the Mayan ruins with the expert guides that EvoColors arranged for us. I really learn a lot on these Mayan tours. As for the cycling, we weren't really provided with any maps or a discussion of the daily routes and meet up places. Most the of the time we weren't given a GPS route to download on our Garmin. Most of the download were for our phones which I did not have mounted on my bike. I therefore tended to follow others. The cycling guides really should have better communicated the route and meet up points prior to and during the ride. I really thought we should have ridden as a group or a few small group to keep folks from getting isolated. The van was suppose to make sure everyone made it to the end point safely. However, the lead ride group had such a large lead, that the folks could see where they turned. without a route sheet or a gps. The van stayed behind the last rider, but if the group got separated, some folks could have taken the wrong turn. This happen when one rider was all alone followed the route on the GPS. However, when the leader deviated from the route and decided it was too hot and humid to continue. Except for the lone woman, everyone met the van and was ready to hop on. However, since we couldn't get in contact with the woman (she had a drained battery on her phone), it was decided to disconnect the bike rack at the back of the van and try to find the missing rider. It took over 3 hours to find the rider and the other 16 riders had to wait for the van to return. They should have made it clear that "no one is allowed to ride alone". Also, it there is any deviation from the route sheet, the lead should stop and wait for all the riders to show up and explain the reason for the change. Someone should always keep track of the total number of riders during these rides. Some do elect to stay on the van and not ride. Rick Raffantii has previously provide you comments on this tour, which I totally agree with. Rich

The bike rides were very poorly planned. Maps which were provided at the last minute were incorrect, and the leaders made no effort to keep track of the riders. One rider got lost as a result. It was unclear where or whether we would stop for lunch, which is important in 90F/90% hunidity weather. We also spent too much time on the bus. This was more of a bus trip than a bike trip.

EcoColors employees and guides are excellent. The van was excellent. If the bikes had been given a major tune-up before the trip, things would have been smoother. The We saw many Mayan ruins with great guides and stayed in very good to excellent accommodations. The less touristy towns we visited were very interesting. The food was fine. I think this is a great way to see the peninsula and get some exercise while doing so. However, the tour description led me to believe that there would be less driving and much more cycling. Given the climate and the expansive geography covered. I don't think there's much to be done about that; maybe not covering so much mileage. Personally, I wish I had taken all the opportunities to snorkel.
