About this trip

Are you a fun and freedom loving woman who knows the value of self care and wants to feel her best? Have you had Greece on your list forever? If you love the Mediterranean lifestyle, want to create more space, joy & time JUST FOR YOU while having the time of your life on the Greek Island made famous by the Mamma Mia movie filmed there in 2008… this trip is for you!

Immerse your heart and soul in traditional Greek culture in the heart of the Aegean. A unique 8 day exploration of self through sound. Maybe this sound healing retreat is just what you need to soothe your tired soul, create profound connection, discover ways to work with sound for wellness.

We have a boutique villa to ourselves near the town of Skopelos where we'll do gentle movement, morning yoga nidra or hatha practises, sound baths and explore sound healing practices.

Connect with someone special or make this a self exploration...

Best friends, family, partners, married couples... Your relationship has an opportunity to grow, shift & blossom through an intimate experience away from home. Solo or as a duet you will bring more of yourself back home to everyone around you.

Sound is an important part of how we live, navigate and express ourselves in the world. You'll experience singing bowls, vibroacoustic therapy, tuning forks, mantra making, toning and more. Learn how to use sound therapeutically for yourself with simple tools or your own voice.

Prepare to be inspired !

We will explore the stunning island of Skopelos including the Agios Ioannis church made famous by the 2008 movie Mamma Mia and many of the beaches included in the movie as well.

Journalling, sound meditations and "sonic snapshots" will be a daily practise as you learn to experience more of your sound world during this sound healing retreat in Greece.

Excursions

Our private villa is well located just at the edge of town, and still close enough to walk for shopping, dining or taking a pastry & greek coffee and do some people watching as the ferries come and go. You'll be treated to some traditional Greek music as you explore the Skopelos tavernas.

We are also close to the island bus which runs regularly through the day and late into the evening. Taxis are also available.

Stops to more epic greek villages & beaches are minutes away!

You will have plenty of free time during the week to explore independently or with others.

We will have 3 main excursions.

Evening in The North End of the Island:

The Mamma Mia church (Agios Ioannis) - Atop a stunning piece of geography set against the Aegean Sea and a world famous photo spot too! The 200 step journey to the top is an experience on it's own. We'll spend enough time here to pay our respects, enjoy the journey, the view and a swim at the beach below. Glossa Arts & Cultural Center for wine & local cheese, Traditional dance performance and greek dance lesson!  Then we'll spend the evening in Glossa village in the north near Agios Ioannis, including a stroll through the village, shops, and sunset dinner at one of the local restaurants.

Mamma Mia sing along at a local taverna! - within walking distance of our villa,

we'll sing our  hearts out to many of the ABBA tunes made famous by the 2 Mamma Mia movies. Singing is great therapy especially when there's joy infused. It doesn't matter if you think you can sing or if anyone will enjoy it. SING ANYWAYS! (great idea to watch the movie before the trip too)

Meditation and Toning with the Skopelos Goats - There's a special herd of goats that roams the mountains here. We'll go with the shepherd who care takes them and experience the magic of natural group coherence through silence and sound.  Each goat wears a handmade bell. The sound of all the tones within the herd is hypnotic & transformative. I had the experience a few years ago, walking in the middle of the herd. The most peace I have ever experienced.

Food

Explore the incredible traditional Mediterranean diet and local favourites too.

The island produces many fresh items and the olive oil and feta cheese are so good you'll be ruined for all others! The Antoniou olive press is located near the village of Glossa in the north end of the island where you can see the process first hand. Be sure to take some of it home!

Included:

The welcome dinner will be at a local taverna that offers a real greek welcome to the island.

Experience a vibrant social atmosphere that naturally blossoms over meals here while the sun sets on our first evening together on Skopelos.

Our breakfasts will be vegan/vegetarian with fresh local baked goods, fruit, greek yogurt and more.

The rest of the snacks & meals are up to you. (and at your expense)

Your room has a kitchenette so you can easily have any meals you wish there or just pick up some snacks and picnic items for when you head out to the beach. There are many options for gluten free, vegetarian and vegan and food prices are very reasonable on the island. The more popular beaches have beach bars with food/drink menus. You'll never starve on this island! It's possible we'll enjoy some meals out together as well.

Accomodation

We've got a lovely 6 room Greek boutique villa all to ourselves! With consistently high ratings online averaging 9.3 out of 10, the villa in Skopelos town is well located and comfortable.

I believe it has just the right vibe for our exploration with sound. You'll be able to balance time to yourself and with the group at the villa or on walk-able outings to town, taxi and bus rides elsewhere on the island.

Morning sound bath and movement practises will be in the covered outdoor patio each morning as the sun rises over Skopelos town. Traditional Greek breakfast will be delivered to our villa right after.

Large, comfortable (king size) beds are spacious for one or easily shared between friends or family for shared accommodation pricing. Each room has its own bathroom, kitchenette and table.

What to bring

Here's a few things to consider:

Walking shoes - comfortable and worn in (if you buy new ones for the trip be sure to break them in!) You'll want sneaker/runners, sandals and water shoes too if your feet are sensitive to pebbles. Not all the beaches are sandy on Skopelos but they're all fabulous! *High heels are not advised because of all the uneven stonework in the town and villages. You can find some snazzy sparkly flats or wedges for evenings out if you wish.

Sun hat - for sun and heat protection under the greek heat. June is not the peak for heat on the island. Hot enough for swimming but not so hot you can't enjoy yourself either. Consider natural or homemade sunscreens too, prevent your burn and keep chemicals out of the sea.

Natural fabrics! - polyester clothing is not your friend in the Greek heat. Fabrics like rayon, bamboo, cotton or linen are! Wear things that are loose and breathable for best comfort. A light jacket, sweater or wrap is good for the evening too.

A comfortable daypack - bring a small backpack, purse or sling for day trips to the beach or other villages.

Insulated water bottle! - there's a tremendous use of plastic water bottles in Greece. Reduce your use by buying the large ones, cooling in your fridge and filling your own water bottle. Double walled stainless steel are the best because they'll keep your water cool. The local water is good but heavy with minerals so can be hard on your system if you're not used to it.

Be comfortable, be kind, be yourself.  Consider the local shops and products for purchases on the island. Often you'll be chatting with the owners and families you're directly supporting. On a small island, that means alot. Tipping at cafes and restaurants is appreciated too.  Use CASH as much as you can to avoid fees for you and the businesses, keep the hard earned money in the hands of the business owners.

Leader Bio

Everything is frequency!

Career vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and Canadian recording artist Narissa Young began studying Sound Therapy formally in 2014.  Having known the power of music to instantly transform, she yearned for a more intentionally focussed way to connect and contribute. The 2021 completion of her Associate’s Degree in Sound Therapy through the Globe Institute in Sausalito, California paved the way and she’s been making waves ever since.

Spending several months of the year on Skopelos where she and her Greek husband own a home she's fallen in love with the island and the Mediterranean life. She loves to show people around and invite them to really slow down and listen to their own heart and expand their listening to the heartbeat of a village, a community, an island and beyond.

Her Vancouver Island studio is active year round with one on one sessions, winter offerings include in person and online tuning fork workshops and sound baths as well.

With a special focus on Vibroacoustic Therapy Narissa is making a difference in those around her with access to this restorative approach. Helping others feel safe with sound is her passion, resetting the nervous system is the foundation of this work.

Consult with Narissa about adding sound healing to your wellness retreat.

Based on Vancouver Island BC, possibilities are endless as she explores the therapeutic use of voice, vibroacoustics, tuning forks, drums, bowls, chimes…. in an effort to connect, restore and hold space for true healing with sound.

It's your responsibility to get to Skopelos on Day 1 of the retreat by 6pm

(ps. my friends Marc & Angela at Gin & Tonic travel can help you!)

Flight and ferry considerations:

Carefully check flight schedules for airlines flying directly to Skiathos...

Aegean Air Athens to Skiathos flight is only twice per day during this time. You must plan this with the arrival of your flight into Athens or be prepared to stay in Athens overnight and fly to Skiathos the next day. Some people like to arrive in Athens for a few days then come to the islands. If arriving in the evening on Skiathos, (before day 1) I recommend you book an overnight in advance as you'll miss the last ferry to Skopelos.

Here's the ways we've done it before:

OPTION 1 - arrive in Athens, stay over night, get a morning flight to Skiathos, take ferry to Skopelos on Day 1 of our retreat.

OPTION 2 - arrive in Athens earlier and enjoy time there, take a morning flight to Skiathos for arrival on Day 1 of our retreat.

OPTION 3 - arrive anywhere in Greece and get an appropriate ferry or flight to get you to Skopelos port for Day 1 of our retreat!

Ferry - If you would like to come from Volos on the mainland there is a 3 hour ferry to Skopelos daily. It stops at Skiathos too so you can get a glimpse or even get off there depending your schedule.

Otherwise, you will be on Skiathos, taking the 20 minute ferry to Skopelos on or before Day 1 of our retreat.

Either way, You'll need to arrive at the SKOPELOS TOWN port (not GLOSSA port, it's in the north) where I'll meet you for bags and the short walk to the villa.

There are MANY ferries in Greece, keep your eye on seasonal schedules and be flexible if they change. Give yourself lots of time! I've used the Ferry Hopper app for purchasing tickets and viewing routes which is handy though there are ferry ticket offices everywhere and they'll happily answer questions.
