“Travel is about the gorgeous feeling of teetering in the unknown.“ ~ Anthony Bourdain
Join me for a very special yoga retreat in Nardò; a city full of art, palaces, towers, eclectic villas, castles, farms, monumental gardens, natural parks, and over 14 miles of pristine coastline. While this small baroque town is not a highly publicized destination, the diverse and genuine people and way of life simply cannot be found in the more touristy areas of Puglia. Nardò has maintained an unspoiled nature, and this authenticity makes it the perfect backdrop for a nourishing and culturally inspiring yoga retreat. Summers here are HOT, but in October, the weather is mild, beach walks are meditative, and the streets once again belong to the locals who are filled with kindness. For one week, we will slow down, practice yoga daily, eat delicious local cuisine, explore the ancient city, go on adventures, become like the locals and truly submerge ourselves in the beautiful and unique culture that this very special region has to offer. This will truly be a magical and unforgettable experience.
Nardò, perfectly centralized in the middle of Puglia. was founded about 3,000 years ago and has seen it all: Messapians, Grecians, Arabs, Turks, Normans, Spaniards, French, and Venetians. It has been influenced from a quirky mixture of cultures for centuries that is tangible in the people, the food, the local dialect, the music, and the architecture. Our home for the week, a meticulously converted ancient monastery (which was formerly a palace) lies in the center of Nardò. You can expect large and luxurious rooms, each completely unique in style, with grand frescoed vaulted ceilings, mosaic tiled or parquet floors, elegant antique furnishings, ensuite bathrooms and private outdoor terraces overlooking the ancient city. With a series of living rooms and patios, the soothing sounds of the interior fountain, and the sun shining generously inside and out, this place will invoke joy, inspiration and most importantly a sense of peace.
