About this trip
Join us for an experience unlike any other. Not only will you go home forever changed, but your participation will positively affect the lives of the vulnerable street children of Irembo Foundation, a small grass roots NGO in Kigali, Rwanda that empowers youth and single mamas. Your week will be filled with adventures that include educational and cultural experiences, as well as astounding nature safari and hikes. What’s included
- transportationTransportation to and from airport and to all events during the retreat will be provided.
- mealsBreakfast, sack lunch, and dinner will be provided.
- lodgingSix (7 if needed) nights of lodging in the newly remodeled Mama Rwanda youth hostel. This 8 bedroom hostel features a coffee shop, and 8 newly furnished bedrooms with private bathroom.

- hike1 Full day of hiking the canopy of the Nyunge Forest National Park , the largest protected mountain forest in Africa (https://www.nyungweforest.com/canopy-walk-nyungwe/)
- school visitsWe will visit the schools that Irembo children attend and meet the children and their teachers. Your donation will help pay tuition fees for these vulnerable street children.
- Kigali Genocide MemorialWe will spend several hours in this historical museum that honors the memory of the more than one million Rwandans killed in 1994 through education and peace-building.(http://www.kgm.rw)
- Visit to "Hotel Rwanda"WE will visit the famous HÔTEL DES MILLE COLLINES, famous from the 2004 movie Hotel Rwanda. It features a beautiful bar and art galleries.
- Art ClassesSeveral art classes will be organized with local galleries and studios. Drum lessons are also an option.
- Cooking lessonsWe will participate in cooking the traditional Rwandan meal.
- Visit to local marketWe will walk to a local market to purchase our fruit, vegetables, and shop an array of beautiful cloth and handmade items.
- Village visitsWe will travel to the country side to visit villages and meet the residents, many of whom only speak Kinyarwanda or French. We will visit local art and craft markets.

I had a once in a lifetime experience on this trip. The food was amazing and the rooms were really good. I met some wonderful people on this trip. There were so many great parts to this trip. I loved the whole safari experience. I also loved experiencing a very different culture than I am used to. Rwanda was such a beautiful place and I will never forget my time there.
