      Wednesday, June 12

8:00am Gather with your fellow travelers at Capitol Tours office in West Columbia to prepare for departure at 8:30am.

10:00am Arrive at the Mennonite church where we will learn about the Mennonite & Amish faith. Afterward we will spend some time with Lil from Lil’s Herbs to learn about the many uses for herbs and how to create a “tussie mussie”.

11:45am Time to continue to Miller’s Bread Basket for delicious meat and three lunch. Of course, the meal wouldn’t be complete without a delicious slice of pie or cake for dessert.

1:30pm Board the motorcoach and continue to Barnwell.

2:00pm Arrive at King George Lavender Farm which will be in peak bloom time for over 8,000 lavender plants. Eleanor, the owner of the farm, will share information about growing lavender in South Carolina and tell us about its many uses. She will also demonstrate the distillation process needed to produce various products. There is a farm store for you to purchase some of these amazing products.

3:30pm Time to depart from the farm and travel back to Blackville.

4:00pm We will stop at Healing Springs at God’s Acre for the opportunity to bottle some of the healing water (bring your own bottle to fill). The springs earned its reputation during the Revolutionary War when four mortally wounded British soldiers were restored to fighting health by drinking and bathing in the springs.

4:30pm Time to head back to West Columbia.

6:00pm Estimated arrival at Capitol Tours.

Great trip!! Our guide Mr. Al Miller was wonderful, learned so much about the Gullah/Geechee culture. The International African American Museum was very educational although for me a little heart-wrenching at times. Enjoyed lunch on the waterfront also. Thanks Capitol Tours for the trip!
