Enjoy a relaxed breakfast at the Hyatt Regency Hakone before we set off for our next destination: Kyoto.
Today's Activities:
After breakfast, we will transfer to the train station to board the bullet train to Kyoto, the former capital of Japan, renowned for its rich history and culture. The bullet train ride will take approximately 2.5 hours.
10:00 AM: Meet in the hotel lobby for our 1 hour taxi transfer from the hotel to Mishima Station.
HIKARI 509 – Direct Bullet Train (no transfers required):
- Departure: 11:46 AM from Mishima
- Arrival: 1:37 PM at Kyoto
Since the reserved seats include oversized baggage storage, they will be in a full row with the baggage area behind. This means only one seat will have a direct view of Mt. Fuji. (if weather permits)
However, you're welcome to stand briefly near the larger windows by the doors for a better view of Mt. Fuji while on the Shinkansen. It’s a great spot to take in the scenery!
Once we arrive, we will take a taxi from the Kyoto station to our Ryokan, where we will be staying for the next 4 nights.
4:00 PM: Meet in the lobby to take a 15 minute taxi to our tea ceremony.
In the evening, we will experience one of Japan's most cherished traditions: a Traditional Tea Ceremony.
4:30 PM: Private Tea Ceremony at a Local Home
Kyoto is the perfect setting to experience the elegant Japanese tea ceremony, which was popularized here. This ceremony is an important part of Japanese culture, emphasizing grace, hospitality, and mindfulness. You will have the chance to learn how to make matcha tea using traditional Japanese tools, such as the bamboo whisk. A licensed Japanese tea ceremony instructor will guide you through the steps, teaching you about the ceremony’s etiquette and significance.
You will also enjoy three types of traditional Japanese sweets, sourced from a historical Kyoto sweets shop, made with high-quality sugar that complements the tea. At the end of the ceremony, you’ll leave with a greater appreciation for this beautiful custom.

This experience lasts about an hour. Afterward, you can explore the area, meet us at the restaurant (use Go App or Uber for transport), or return to the Ryokan to rest before dinner.
Free Time Recommendation: Kamo River (13 min by Uber) – A scenic riverside with walking paths, stepping stones, and summer terrace dining.
Evening Schedule:
- 6:45 PM: Meet in front of the Ryokan for a group walk to the restaurant.
- 7:00 PM: Group dinner at Kurakura (9-minute walk) – Enjoy Kyoto’s renowned cuisine in a relaxed setting.
After-Dinner Recommendation: Pontocho District
For nightlife, visit Pontocho, a lively, lantern-lit alley along the Kamogawa River. This vibrant area is packed with restaurants and bars spilling onto the riverbank, offering everything from sizzling yakitori to chilled beers. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, making it a great place to unwind.
