The best aspect of Cotopaxi horseback riding is the unique combination of physical activity, connection with a magnificent andean horse, and the opportunity to explore beautiful volcanic scenery. It's a great way to improve balance, core strength, and overall fitness, while also experiencing the tranquility and joy of being outdoors on horseback.
The Andean Horse is a rustic animal and a tenacious and strong worker that is adapted to the altitude (over 4,000 meters) of the Andes, accustomed to traveling an average of 80 kilometers per day, 5 days a week, carrying a considerable weight and can survive on the most basic fodder available.
Book in advance:
Especially during peak season, it's recommended to book your tour in advance to secure your spot.
Dress appropriately:
Wear comfortable clothing, layers, and sturdy shoes suitable for riding and hiking. Bring a waterproof jacket, sunscreen, and sunglasses.
Stay hydrated:
Bring at least 2 liters of water and some snacks to keep you energized throughout the ride.
Be aware of altitude:
Cotopaxi National Park is at high altitude, so be prepared for potential altitude sickness. Take it easy and listen to your body.

Pickup in Quito: (2,800 msl)
A private vehicle will pick you up from your hotel in Quito in the morning.
Transfer to Cotopaxi National Park:
The trip lasts approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, passing through Andean landscapes and picturesque villages.
Arrival at the park and preparation: (3,600 msl)
You will be given instructions on how to use the horse and equipped with the appropriate equipment.
Horseback riding: (3,800 msl)
You will enjoy a 2-hour horseback ride lasting several hours on trails that pass through varied landscapes, such as moorlands, forests, and rivers.
Meal:
A box lunch will be provided on our break in the Paramo.
Visit to Limpiopungo Lagoon: (3,800 msl)
Optionally, you can visit the lagoon and walk around its surroundings. Limpiopungo lagoon offers a great birdwatching experience where you can spot different species such as: Andean duck or seagull, Caracaras, Variable Hawk, Plumbeous-Sierra Finch, Great Trush among others.
Return to Quito:
After the horseback ride and activities, you will return to Quito in the afternoon about 2 p.m.
