What a great adventure. We walked to the Coyote Canyon office along the cobblestone San Miguel de Allende in the morning to meet up with transport and guide, then rode in their van to the local pyramid, stopping at the pyramid visitor center first for a brief bathroom break and overview of the site. The guide let us know we needed to locker our backpack there, which was easy and free and secure. They have had tourists stash archaeological "souvenirs" in the past so no bags allowed on the property. The bigger bus from the center to the pyramid had several groups aboard with various guide outfitters. A little more rambunctious as other group guides pointed out different points of interest and explained how the land was sold to a private owner. The Coyote Canyon guide (Lino) was respectful of others and held his commentary until we were walking at the site. He was friendly, open to questions, knowledgeable, and told great stories about the site, excavations, history, ancient politics, modern politics, anthropology and archaeology. We climbed the pyramid, walked around the sites, and enjoyed the trails of ants. We were there maybe 2.5 hours. Then we returned to the visitor center by bus, retrieved out bag, potty break, then were shuttled to a rancho nearby for a glorious lunch of locally maiz-ed tortillas, nopales, quesadillas, salad, and a potato-eggs-sausage dish. A carafe of purified (boiled) water was served, and bottled soft drinks were available for additional cost ($25 pesos). After lunch (bathroom available there, too) we were shuttled to horse ranch for an amazing 2.5 hour ride in the rocky hills, up onto a scenic mesa. The horses are working horses, so small, scrappy, savvy, calm, and cooperative. Excellent for kids (our youngest was 8) and novices (the other family there had 2 kids who had never ridden. They did great.). There's a chance to gallop and have the guide (June) take a movie of you with her phone. That was amazing. How often do you get a movie of yourself looking like a Western hero riding to the rescue! The photos/videos cost an extra $500 pesos/$28USD. We felt well worth it. There were cattle dogs on the trek with us which was fun for us, too. Those who chose not to gallop had a great time, too, walking through streams and up and down craggy summits. After that, shuttled back to San Miguel de Allende and a stroll back through the beautiful street to the AirBnB, talking about the great day.

We had an excellent trip! The hosts were careful placing everyone on the appropriate horse and ensured that everyone was comfortable before beginning our journey. We explored a bit of the country then rode through some neighborhoods to centro histórico. It was a magical experience which included a visit to one of the oldest cantina’s in town El Gato Negro. Saludos a todo de Coyote Canyon. We’ll be back!

The trip was amazing! We have been on trail rides in many countries but this one was the best we had ever been on. As a lifelong rider, I was impressed by the great training and behaviour of the horses. The first time riders were also treated fabulously. The cowboys were thoughtful and fun. Gracias!!!

The hot springs were awesome! Such a fun and relaxing experience and the food was delicious. There were a few small things though that were inconvenient that would’ve made the experience a 5 star, there wasn’t a lot of info on the website, transportation was included but wasn’t clear in terms of pick up, the location didn’t provide any towels and charged about $15CAD per towel, and as tourists navigating around the site with minimal signs and staff was slightly challenging at first but eventually we figured it all out.
