Unplug, detox, explore and unwind on this one-of-a-kind DreamTime Hot Spring adventure...the primary focus is to experience the beauty and wonder of the desert and whenever possible squeeze in some Thai Massage... Thai Yoga Massage is a unique form of bodywork that combines deep yoga type stretching with mindful movement and massage. Your muscles, joints, meridians and energy centers will all benefit tremendously from this body-mind harmonizing modality. A terrific way to drop out of your head and nurture your body. Expect about 15-20 hours of Thai Yoga Massage instruction (geared towards all levels) over the course of the 7 days (as weather permits) with the rest of the time devoted to soaking, socializing, personal time and exploration of the splendorous desert terrain... LOGISTICS: ~ Weather~ Hard to predict the weather this far in advance…but generally speaking, the chance of rain is minimal. April is the best month for Death Valley exploration in terms of climate conditions - overall MILD. Temperatures in the Eastern Sierras can vary quite a bit hovering between 45 F – 85 F depending on the time of day and elevation; in Death Valley the range is approximately 70 – 100 F. Best to dress in layers… ~Hydration~ From having spent countless years exploring a wide variety of desert terrains I can assure you that the desert is not your typical outdoor environment. The key to staying healthy in the desert is hydration and while water is important the key to staying hydrated is NOT drinking copious quantities of water but eating Water Rich Foods (ie. fruits, juices, salads, rice, couscous, quinoa, orzo, gazpacho) and avoiding dehydrating foods or at least limiting their intake (ie, trail mix, power bars, coffee, alcohol, crackers, jerky). If you simply drink tons of water you’ll just pee it out the other end which will leave you once again dehydrated! To retain water the body needs to eat water rich foods that keep the cells in a state of turgidity (full of water like a balloon). Dehydrating foods on the other hand, rob the cells of fluid and these then have to be replaced. There is a limit to how much drinking water we can take out with us as we will be travelling to some pretty remote locations though it helps that we will be mostly camping by hot springs and hence in a worse case scenario we can treat and drink the local water. Also, soaking, not only feels wonderful but has the added advantage of helping with hydration. ~Food~ Most meals will be organic, water rich, and tasty…you can bring a small personal stash of food items but keep in mind that space will be limited in the vans, so personal food items should mainly consist of snacks and be no more than half a grocery bag in volume. Meals need to be group meals unless otherwise cleared with me beforehand. Depending on how many non-veg, vegetarians and vegans we sign up, we will adjust the menu accordingly. The menu will be primarily vegetarian with either eggs or fish thrown in on a daily basis. All trips will include a chef with ample backcountry cooking experience.
