About this trip

Discover the natural and cultural beauty of Chacas on a day trip from Huaraz. We will traverse the stunning landscapes of the Cordillera Blanca, visit Huascarán National Park, and pass through the famous Punta Olímpica Tunnel—one of the highest vehicular tunnels in the world.

During the journey, we will see Cancaracá Lagoon, enjoy traditional artisanal ice cream from Carhuaz, and explore the colonial charm of Chacas, a town renowned for its architecture, religious art, and artisan traditions.

Departure from Huaraz

09:30 AM – We begin our tour from Huaraz, heading toward the Callejón de Huaylas and enjoying beautiful Andean landscapes along the way.

Visit to Carhuaz

We will make a brief stop in Carhuaz, a town known for its delicious artisanal ice cream made from local fruits. We will have time to taste it.

Entry to Huascarán National Park

We continue to Huascarán National Park, where we will complete registration and pay the entrance fee. From this point, we can admire the majestic beauty of the Cordillera Blanca.

Crossing the Punta Olímpica Tunnel

We will pass through the Punta Olímpica Tunnel, located at approximately 4,736 meters above sea level.

Panoramic view of Cancaracá Lagoon

We will continue our journey to reach a stunning panoramic view of Cancaracá Lagoon, surrounded by mountains and natural landscapes typical of the Peruvian Andes.

Arrival in Chacas

We will arrive at the charming town of Chacas, situated at 3,359 meters above sea level.

During the visit, we will see:

  • Chacas Main Square (Plaza de Armas)

  • Virgen de la Asunción Church

  • Chacas Town Center

Return to Huaraz

5:30 PM – After completing our visit to Chacas, we will begin the return journey to Huaraz, once again enjoying the landscapes of the Cordillera Blanca.

Approximate arrival in Huaraz in the evening, depending on road conditions and traffic.
