Embark on an exciting mountaineering adventure on Pico Mateo, one of the most accessible snow-capped peaks in the Cordillera Blanca for those looking to get started in high-altitude climbing. Rising to 5,150 meters above sea level, this adventure combines glacial landscapes, technical ascents, and panoramic views of some of Peru's most impressive mountains.
03:00 AM – Departure from your accommodation in Huaraz via private tourist transport to Punta Olímpica, the starting point for the climb.
Arrival at Punta Olímpica, located at approximately 4,736 meters above sea level. Here, we will prepare our technical gear, check safety equipment, and receive a briefing from the professional guide before beginning the ascent.
We will begin the ascent up the Pico Mateo glacier. The route involves approximately 3 to 4 hours of hiking and climbing, traversing high-mountain terrain with slopes reaching inclinations of 40° to 50°.
We will reach the summit of Pico Mateo, situated at 5,150 meters above sea level. From this vantage point, we will enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the Cordillera Blanca, including the snow-capped peaks of Huascarán and Huandoy.
We will begin the controlled descent along the glacier route back to Punta Olímpica. This stage will take approximately 2 to 3 hours, following the instructions of the specialized guide at all times.
After completing the activity, we will board the transport back to Huaraz. Estimated arrival in the city is around 3:00 PM, marking the conclusion of this exciting climbing experience in the Cordillera Blanca.
