Ghana was the first country in Africa to gain independence. We head to the Black Star Square and Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park for an interactive 'history lesson'. 

Later in the day we get to experience 'market day' in Ghana  at one of West Africa's busiest Markets. 

We head out early in the morning to Cape Coast, a 2 hour drive from Accra. 

First stop; Kakum National Park. Overcome your fear of heights and brave the 7 wooden walkways that tower above the rainforest. 

Dubbed the 'Year of Return'; 2019 marks 400 years since the first slaves arrived in North America from West Africa. Our second stop  in Cape Coast will be to Elmina and Cape Coast slave castles. A sombre and unforgettable experience. 

Lunch will be provided by Outer Circle. 

Now in it's 9th year; the Chale Wote Street Art Festival is a not-to-be-missed fixture on the art calendar in Accra. 

Thousands of people gather for the week long festival to attend exhibitions, parades, film premieres and to party all day long in the historic Jamestown neighbourhood. 

CHOP - West African slang for 'eat'.  

We'll spend the day cooking (a bit) but mostly eating our way through the city. From street food to jollof rice, from fufu to snail kebabs - we'll sample it all! 

Time to slow the pace down. We take a drive to a nearby fishing village and spend Sunday afternoon relaxing at a beach resort. 

A Ghanaian artists takes us on a tour of two galleries in the city.  We try our hand at a local art form - 'batik printing' and create our very own fabric. 

No visit to Accra is complete without a stop at the  'Art Centre' where you can shop for locally made crafts and other souvenirs.
