      About this trip

Iceland Women’s Hiking Adventure Tour is a 40-mile thru-hike from the hot springs of Landmannalauger to the lush green forests of Thorsmork in the highlands of southern Iceland! You may never be able to pronounce the name, but the adventure will be unforgettable.

Our Women’s Iceland Thru Hiking Adventure Tour Laugavegur Trek is a 40 mile hike over 5 days (plus pre/post hike lodging) from the hot springs of  Landmannalaugar, across extreme environments of the southern highlands, to the forested valley of  Þórsmörk (thorsmork).

Women ages 60ish and older are invited to join our team as we trek across the beautiful souther highlands in Iceland.

The landscape is so varied and other worldly, you just might think you were on another planet.

Traverse rainbow, rhyolite mountains down into steaming geothermal areas that give way to bubbling mud pools surrounded by vibrant green lime colored moss. Trek through valleys of obsidian (Dragon Glass to all you Game of Thrones fans), and walk over snow, ford glacial rivers, and across an expansive lava sand desert on our Women’s Iceland Thru Hiking Adventure Tour.

Be rewarded with the feeling of accomplishment on our Iceland Women’s Hiking Adventure Tour, knowing that you achieved your goal each day! Celebrate and laugh with your adventure buddies as you sit around the table at night sharing homemade meals, and your stories at the end of each day on our Iceland Women’s Hiking Adventure Tour.

Oh, friend….there will be stories on this epic Women’s Iceland Thru Hiking Adventure Tour!

All of the planning has been done for you. This trip is fully supported with pre-trip preparation and a detailed packing list. Carry only a day pack with personal gear. Hot breakfast and dinners are prepared at mountain huts each night. Luggage is transferred between huts for you. The trail  is challenging, but not impossible or technical. All you need for are to invest in a few pieces of good personal gear such as: gortex rain jacket and pants, trekking poles, hiking boots, back pack, non-cotton base layers.

Who should sign up for our Women’s Iceland Thru Hiking Adventure Tour?

You must love hiking and you must be confident that you can get yourself from point A to point B each day on your own two feet. This trip is open to women who do not have any experience thru-hiking. Some mountain hiking experience carrying a backpack is required in various weather conditions, and you must be an active person, willing to prepare your body for the experience.

We walk 6-7 hours per day, or about 7-10 miles. Maximum elevation is 3,400 ft and is covered within the first two days of hiking. The third day is rolling with short, steep climbs. The final stretch is mostly flat with little elevation gain. The fifth day is hiking the trails around Thorsmork. The trails are foot paths with loose gravel, rocks, sand, mud, and possibly snow.. Total accumulative elevation for the hike is 6000ft over 5 days.

      Ready for adventure!

This is a challenging trip but not impossible. The varied terrain (loose gravel, dirt, mud, snow) steep ascents and decents, combined with the varied weather make this hike moderate to strenuous for most.

Recommended for those that are physically active and have some experience with hiking at least 5 hours in mountainous terrain with a backpack.

I signed up for the Greenland trip, paying little attention to anything other than the dates and packing list. Turns out, that’s the perfect way to approach Greenland - with the right gear preparation, an open mind and no specific expectations. Then, this mysterious country slowly unfolds in front of you with surprises (good and less good) around every corner. Tara and our experienced Icelandic guides planned a varied itinerary, aiming to expose us to the sights, sounds and all forms of ice East Greenland has to offer. But, curve balls abounded (mostly weather-related) — each one handled deftly and with humor, while keeping our group engaged and busy. This adventure requires flexibility, willingness to sometimes make do without creature comforts and a bit more physical stamina than some of Tara’s other trips. But boy is it worth it! We laughed, we cried, we oohed and aahed, and like most Green Edventures trips, we did it all with a group of badass women. Thank you for making this incredibly special experience happen!

This trip was absolutely amazing for anyone who is a fan of nature. You get to spend tons of time either on or in the ocean, with many snorkels, scuba dives, and whale watching trips. You also spend several nights camping on a beautiful beach sleeping under a bed of stars. The exploration of La Plaz is also fantastic, with plenty of time to enjoy the city and it's history. I would recommend this trip to anyone who loves the outdoors, and I will definitely try and go back at some point.

This was a great trip, especially for first-timers to Alaska. We enjoyed many of the highlights Alaska has to offer. Our local guide worked tirelessly to provide a good experience for all. Meals were healthy, tasty and clean. Accommodations were comfortable. The dynamics were positive and cooperative. All participants were of appropriate fitness levels for the activities. Our group leader set and maintained a positive and fun-loving atmosphere. Thank you, Green Edventures!

I am 85 years old and checked with my doctor before planning this trip. He told me it would be the trip of a lifetime and that I should go. He was right, it was the trip of a lifetime. Traveled with a great group, met three African tribes, and saw a great many animals. The accommodations were great, and the food was good. So happy that I had this opportunity.

This was an amazing, bucket-list, trip-of-a-lifetime type of trip! The local guide is the absolute best and makes sure you experience the best that Uganda has to offer. The wildlife viewing and the cultural experiences are second to none. You will be planning your return trip before you even finish this one! As always, the trip leader and the rest of the GreenEdventures crew also do a great job and make sure every detail has been planned and taken care of. I can’t recommend this trip or GE enough.

I went on an amazing trip with Tara to Baja, Mexico in 2020. This was a dream trip for me being a wildlife lover. It was incredible to be able to swim with whale sharks and sea lions and get up close with gray whales. Camping on the beach was amazing. We had a great group of women and everyone vibed well and all of the tour guides including Tara, Alex and Chabello were so fun, friendly and helpful every step of the way. The food was great at the campsite and at the restaurants we got to try. When our trip plans initially got derailed waiting on a negative Covid test and we had to get a different flight, Tara did everything in her power to accommodate us and make sure we got to enjoy every part of the trip, including setting us up with another whale shark swimming tour after we had missed the initial one with the group, and she spent time waiting for us to finish before leaving for the airport. I definitely recommend Green Edventures, especially the Baja Mexico trip!

I just returned from the Wisconsin Women's Tour and couldn't have asked for a better trip! For me, the amount and type of activity were perfect. Who know there was so much to discover practically in my own backyard?
