      About this trip

Want a big adventure in a short amount of time? Travel to Iceland and explore the ancient land of Vikings and volcanoes. Traverse the Golden Circle and marvel at the explosive power of the Geysir Geothermal Area and Gulfoss waterfall. Walk the black sand beaches of the Jokulsarlon lagoon and soak up the warmth of the famous Blue Lagoon.

The warmth of Icelanders is disarming, as is their industriousness – they’ve worked hard to recover from financial upheaval, and to transform Iceland into a destination that, thanks to its popularity with visitors, can host more than six times its population each year. Pause and consider a medium-sized city in your country – then give it far-flung universities, airports and hospitals to administer, 30-odd active volcanoes to monitor, and hundreds of hotels to run. How might they cope? Could they manage as well as the Icelanders – and still have time left over to create spine-tingling music and natty knitwear? (Lonely Planet)

We begin our adventure in capital city of Reykjavik the world’s northernmost capital. Nearly two-thirds of the country’s population lives in the capital area. Granted, that’s only around 123,000 people, but what it lacks in terms of the population, it makes up for in culture and excitement. We will take a walking tour of the city and visit to the world renown Blue Lagoon. You’ll find Iceland has an abundance of fantastic eateries to choose from. - don’t miss out on sampling the fermented shark and “best hot dogs in town”.

We leave the city lights behind and head out to our home-away-from-home for the next three days. The Midgard Base Camp is strategically located for easy access to the southern coast sites and activities. Less time spent ‘commuting’ back and forth to Reykjavik = more time to explore! PLUS, it is ‘full board’: breakfast, lunch & dinner! Which really helps the budget - food is so expensive in Iceland because most of it must be imported quite a distance.

The brand-new Base Camp facility, family owned and operated, is receiving glowing reviews for everything they touch! The guides, activities, tours, microbrews, food and laid-back immersive atmosphere they have created. We are part of the family as we spend our days exploring and playing in the snow and our nights hunting the northern lights from the rooftop hot tub!

With our private guide we will experience all the most popular activities: the Golden Circle, The South Coast, black sand beach, glacier hiking, 4x4 tours, volcanoes and so much more! Midgard will take care of everything for us – like we are visiting family!

Final Payment Due Nov 11, 2021

Morocco has been on my bucket list since I was 15. Alt Esc made it so easy. We stayed at wonderful properties and were able to see so much of the country. I'll never forget sunrise and breakfast in the Sahara.

Just returned from another amazing trip with Alt Esc. The Morocco itinerary kept us busy and included full immersion in the culture, the history, the food, and the sites. I made new friends and reconnected with friends I’ve traveled with on other Alt Esc trips. Highly recommend traveling with Tricia.

The trip was wonderful. Rwanda is beautiful and the people there are kind. No words to describe being able to see mountain gorillas in their own habitat. Love the manageable group sizes. Fellow travelers were great as well. Another great trip put together by Tricia!!

The trip was absolutely one of those "trips of a lifetime" for me. I have wanted to visit Easter Island ever since I learned about it. and seeing it with Alt-Escape was very special. We had a compatible group of people and a great trip leader. Our local guide was excellent: extremely knowledgeable about the history and culture of the island and the moai. We saw them at sunrise, sunset, stargazing, and during the day! It was fascinating, and I would recommend taking this wonderful trip with Alt-Escape if you're considering it as a destination.

Not only was the destination fabulous so was the group of 9 women that I shared this experience with. The group was kind, considerate, and flexible. The intinerary made the most of our two locations- Santiago and Easter Island. Our local guides were knowledgeable, and we felt the love they had for their country. The were so proud to share it all with us. Tricia's attention to detail was obvious. The accommodations in both Santiago and Easter Island were well located and the service was excellent.

This was my first trip with Tricia and it will not be my last. The group experience was wonderful. Tricia took care of everything and I made friends that I know I will see again. Ringing in 2024 in Paradise was magical and a memory I will never forget. Thanks Tricia and AltEscTravel!!

I just got back from Alt-Esc Antartica trip aboard the UM Ushuaia. I loved it. Also loved the pre trip to Buenos Aires and Ushuaia. I’d like to stay in Ushuaia longer next time. WHAT a landscape!! Holy cow. The trip was well organized, I got exactly what I paid for. I’ve travelled A LOT and there are other groups that are disorganized, end up with out enough rooms, have too many people, are are a bit of a mess. Alt-Esc is organized and you get exactly what you pay for. I love it!! I’ve now done 3 trips and I’ve signed up for two more!! Thank you Alt-Esc. I work too much and your trips really recharge me!!
