So enjoyed the Annie Leibovitz trip! This was my first over night trip. Patty and team are pro's, with friendly, and considerate, "can do" attitudes. Top notch planning and execution. Great hotel! Looking forward to my next Bryson City Train and Biltmore trips!

Christmas at Biltmore, King Tut and More!

We had great time, despite the cold weather.  Enjoyed all aspects, fellow travelers, and especially the staff.

Our recent trip “Christmas at the Biltmore Estate” which also included the King Tut exhibit was fabulous.  As always, Patty puts so much thought and effort into making her trips as comfortable and well planned as possible. Doris was very helpful during the entire trip. Finally, BRAVO to Donnie, the best coach bus driver ever!!!!!!!


We had a fabulous time!  Patty, Doris and our driver, Donnie, took excellent care of us.  The Biltmore experience is not to be missed.  Hotel was lovely, food delicious and we enjoyed our escorted tours around Asheville.  Looking forward to traveling with them in the future.

I had a great time!  Enjoyed the whole experience.  Liked the hotel and food was good.  Would absolutely go back!!

We really enjoyed this trip. The bus was very comfortable and Cathy was so full of information. She made the ride manageable. She has a great personality too. The Biltmore was fun and the restaurant was very good as well. The rest of the excursions were also enjoyable.

From sign-up, to departing the bus at the end of the trip, it was lots of fun.  While the Biltmore at Christmas is quite a sight to behold, the seamless operation by Patty and her team, ensured a wonderful trip.  All ticket admissions, and stops for sights and food, were about as smooth as possible.  All the "heavy lifting" was taken care of for us, and our driver handled our time on the bus,  expertly.  The price and comfort of the trip made it well worth our while, so Kudos to Patty & crew....and thanks for a wonderful trip!

Night of A Thousand Candles

Patty is a wonderful trip organizer.  No thoughtful detail left out.

Hotel:  I understand this was a first-time experience for Trips by Patty.  I've never experienced such a horrible situation with elevators.  Two slow elevators servicing the whole hotel, including a restaurant and (I think) a rooftop bar.  It was a nightmare.  So much so I ended up using a staircase access outside on the street, which the desk person was nice enough to show me.  If you were first off the bus you probably had a good shot at getting back to your room in a decent amount of time, but if you were near the back, like I was, the wait could be 20 minutes or more.  Same with getting down to lobby:  many elevators from the upper floors arrived at floor 5 full.  So that's why I took the staircase.  Plus, there were very little holiday decorations to enjoy while waiting in the lobby.  It's Christmastime at Biltmore!  The staff said it's because they are a "minimalist hotel."  They were right about that.  Between the elevators and the lack of festiveness, I don't think this hotel is a good choice again.

I felt some of the stops were just toff o much to take in in such a short time frame (King Tut, Craft Guild).  Re the Craft Guild, I would have shaved quite a bit of time off the Biltmore Forest Community in favor of a longer time at the Craft place.  I didn't even have time to visit upstairs.  We drove through Biltmore Forest for a looong time, and the houses were barely visible, so why spend so much time there?

Visibility leads me to another thought:  I had been sitting in the same seat Tues. and Wed.  For whatever reason on Thursday seating became a free-for-all, and I was directed to the emergency exit seat, as was the woman sitting behind me prior to Thursday.  No big deal, except for some strange reason there is a circular film across the two emergency seat windows with a checkered pattern.  So when you are sitting there it's as if you are looking through a blurry prism.  Putting people in those seats is just unfair.  Everyone else gets a clear view, but 2-4 people in the emergency seats do not?  I would have been extremely unhappy and looking for some kind of refund if that had been my seat the whole time.  It's a touring bus, after all.

One final thought:  the lateness of certain passengers.  One woman (greyish blonde choppy haircut) was consistently late back to the bus: late coming out of winery; late for leaving another stop which I can't recall; late to the dinner seating so she couldn't sit were her two traveling companions; and late getting back to the bus at the rest stop.   The last was some excuse about unavailability of restrooms.  No one else seemed to have an issue finding bathrooms, and there was a perfectly good bathroom on the bus for her to use when she realized she would run late.  Since there was a miscount, the bus was on the verge of leaving when the person sitting next to her spoke up.  If she hadn't spoken up, what would have happened is she would have contacted Patty, and everyone would have been inconvenienced by having to turn around to retrieve a person who clearly cared nothing for her fellow passengers.  

I was late to the bus the first morning because of full elevators arriving at my floor, and that's why I made darn sure, by taking the stairs, that I would not be late again.  Basic consideration.

Tolerating this inconsiderate behavior from an adult should not be acceptable.  After two times the offender(s) should clearly be advised that if they can't get back to the bus on time they will have to find their way to the next stop, or back to the hotel.  Otherwise, they will assume being late is "no big deal" because there are no repercussions. I hate to say this woman should have been treated like a child, but that's how she acted.

After pointing out these observations, I repeat that Patty takes care of every detail, and it was an extremely well-run tour.





We had a great time.  The lights were amazing to see.  Brookgreen Gardens is top notch. They greeted us with brochures showing a map. We ate dinner at the Harvest Restaurant. The service and food were good. The bus ride was easy as usual with Donnie driving. Having Cathy and Penny as trip host was perfect. 

Should leave earlier than 2:30 maybe 1:30 to get more time

My gf and I had an enjoyable trip to Brookgreen Gardens to see the Night of 1,000 lights. Donnie (bus driver) safely and efficiently transported us to and fro, enabling us to just enjoy the ride! Patty and her team were great! Would go on another trip with her!

Wonderful trip! Patty, together with her two guides, Bobby on Day 2, and Mark on Day 3, tied together all intricate history details of the Biltmore family, and their relationship to the King Tut exhibit. Patty's assistant, Doris, made the bus time go quickly with fun games, snacks, and movies. This is my third overnight trip, and all have been "spot on".  I have been very interested to learn about my new state, and Patty has been instrumental in that regard. I look forward to 2026!

We had a great tine. Travel was easy with a very good bus driver. The purpose of the trip was to see the Biltmore House Christmas display and the King Tut exhibit. Our only constructive criticism was that there should have been more time alloted to see both of these venues. We felt a little rushed at the end of each, and could have spent more time there. 

The activities we experienced were fantastic. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable about the area. I learned a lot. 
I did miss you Patty. as our bus person. I also spoke with my neighbors about their issues. 
Yes, I  understand the heat issues at the hotel but being on the first floor I did not experience that. 
I also understand the crotchety old people issues but being late to the bus so many times was not so funny after the first few times. 
I do think staying at a hotel with a bar is a nice idea but I also think many people just can’t or don’t want to have the added cost of an amenity they might not use. Maybe a hotel  within walking distance of that would be better. Loved the hotel on the Charlottesville trip! Excellent choice. 
And the “original” seats issue, I heard that got some people upset. But I know on the mountain trip we did write down our seat numbers in case we lost stuff, we had no issues with that on that trip. But searching for my umbrella, that was in my seat, for minutes while some older man was sitting on it was ridiculous. If I get to that bus area before the bus arrived in Leland and picked seats to be by the neighbors, I truly feel it should not be taken away. So next time I’ll leave a huge bag or something on the seat. 
I enjoyed the activities very much and would love a Raleigh trip to Dix Park and the Chinese Lanterns.

We loved how informative this trip was! We got to do so much, learn so much, in such quick trip. Thank you so much for all your effort in arranging this. Our complaint would be, the hotel was so removed from anything and didn’t have a bar to be able to gather with other travelers and get to know each other better. Of course we got the room with no heat, no fault of yours, but it did make us not want to spend much time in there! 

An absolutely wonderful trip....Well organized, filled with great tours/experiences, plenty of information to help navigate trip and
great accommodations at the Hotel. Very much looking forward to another tour.

This trip exceeded our expectations! Comfortable bus, snacks, and stops plus nice hotel stay. The Candlelight Christmas tour of Biltmore was fabulous and not rushed. The King Tut exhibit was wonderful as well as the holiday lights and trolls at the Arboretum. The guest guides on the bus gave insights into Biltmore's history and the estate. So much more plus some free time! Highly recommend this trip organized by Patty! 
 

We packed in a lot of activity on this trip which was great! I really enjoyed all the tours. Patty does a great job with the arrangements! 
Hotel was lacking though, heat was an issue in several of the rooms and it would have been nice to have had a bar for gathering. 
Unfortunately some people on the bus were too crotchety, a few downright nasty, so I won’t be going on any more of these tours until I’m much older and can’t drive myself. 

We had a great time on the bus, being with friends and enjoying dinner.  The show was good but sometimes to corny.  I enjoyed most of it.

Christmas Theater Trip

Great trip. Enjoyed every minute. Great timing and scheduling. Even enjoyed the bus ride. Thank you Doris for great entertainment and generous snacks. Not to leave out our helpful and great driver. Thank you. Looking forward to the next trip!!



I recommend this trip to everyone. We had a great time and everything was perfectly planned by Patty and Kathy.  When it comes back next year, make your reservation quickly as to not get shutout.

Well planned, fun and friendly tour leaders and all around wonderful people to travel with..looking forward to more trips👌

We always enjoy Patty's trips.  This trip did not disappoint.  Both wineries we visited were beautiful and, most important of all, made outstanding wine--we have found that many wineries in NC just aren't up to par, but these two (Rayson and Shadow Springs) were spectacular.... We also enjoyed the wonderful lunch and tastings at Southern Distilling.  The tasting room and event room were lovely with antique cars and motorcycle collections.  Our stop at Rescue Ranch far exceeded my expectations...the animals were adorable, everything from a giant tortoise to a llama--we also saw, what we believe to be the largest cow in the world--his back was over 6 feet high..   We really enjoyed this trip, as well as the wonderful customer service provided by Patty and her team.

Patty, what a fun and amazing trip that was for me, thank you!  Yes, we had the weather against us the first couple days but you and your fantastic team (Kathy and Donny) made quick adjustments to the itinerary to accommodate.  The bus was comfortable and the stops were planned perfectly for getting a stretch in and eating/restroom breaks when needed.

At the hotel, which had such beautiful balcony views of the river (which was my favorite thing about that hotel) I watched you guys hustle to get the mistake made by the hotel corrected so we could all get in our rooms that first night.  You were very calm and professional with the front desk clerk, who was obviously very confused, and you got it all worked out with a smile on your face.  

A sunny day would have been great for the train ride Wednesday, of course, but with my umbrella I was still able enjoy Bryson City and the train museum before the ride. The train ride itself was very cool experience.  It felt a little like riding back in time, the scenery was so pretty, the lake was massive and the meal was delicious.  I thought the tumbler and reusable bag were nice little swag/souvenirs too.  

Scheduling in a stop for Thursday at the flag museum on the trip home was a great way to break up the day and I did really enjoy that too.  Much more than I thought I would to be honest.  I never gave any thought to what goes into flags and found the historical pictures on the presidential flags to be most interesting.

I wish I lived close enough to take more trips with you guys, if you ever bring a trip out to Las Vegas, count me in.  You guys are The Best :)

Trains and Mountain Towns

We were looking forward to a little escape to the NC mountains and a train ride through the Smokies. We took a trip with Patty to Charlottsville VA and thoroughly enjoyed that. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't great for this trip, but we made the best of it had a great time with the people we traveled with. We enjoyed the stop at the NC Farmers Market on the way to Sylva and dinner at LuLu's was excellent. The next day [Wed] the train ride. We explored Bryson City for a couple of hours before departing on the train and found a great little coffee shop, with the best apple Danish I ever had! :-)
The train ride was great, albeit a bit wet, we really enjoyed the ambiance of riding in a steam train through the Smoky mountains and sitting in a dining car to look out at all the colors.
The next day was the ride home and a stop at the House of Flags Museum in Columbus, SC. and lunch at a little local diner. Overall, we really enjoyed ourselves!

My favorite was the Rescue Ranch with the distillery running a close second. Food was very good everywhere. 
I loved seeing rural North Carolina (staying off of the highways). Riding on 74 was a nice touch/surprise. 
Your team continues to go out of their way to make sure everyone is as happy as possible. 
Looking forward to your 2026 trips.

Patty, Artie and i enjoyed the trip very much. You and Kathy did a wonderful job sharing your knowledge of the area and your recent experiences in the communities we visited. The visit to the Farmers Market was informative and I only wish that the weather was a little better. As a suggestion for future trips where this stop is included, it would be great to make it the last stop on the trip so that we could load up on some of the beautiful fresh produce that was available there. 
The train ride was a lot of fun and the model train museum and display was very interesting. and fun. Train travel has been an interest of mine and resulted in my appointment to the Director of Rail for the State of Vermont by then Governor Howard Dean. I was heavily involved with Amtrak and other States that support passenger rail in their States, so to me it is very interesting to see how people interact on a  Rail trip versus other forms of travel.
I found the Flag Museum very interesting but other than the restaurants , the town did not offer much of anything else. Something you may want to consider in that area is the beautiful Equestrian Training and Show facility in Tryon, NC. 
I was a little disappointed with the food on the train but the service was very good and the staff of the Railroad very responsive and friendly.
Silva was a bit too far from Bryson City and too small to accommodate the group for their food needs. There also seemed to be a lot more to explore in Bryson City that we didn't have time for.
Certainly, you and Kathy made up for any shortfalls that I've noted above and gave as very enjoyable trip. We are looking forward to future "Trips with Patty"...

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review.  I sincerely appreciate the detail which will help me avoid shortcomings like this in the future.  It was not a good experience for you and I apologize for that and will be in touch with you personally.

Tues:  Bus stop at NC Farmers market was too long. Should have only been a pit stop. Lunch at Panera was good, but when 50 people converge on 1 restaurant, it took a very long time. Off to hotel.  Issue with keys.  We get to our room and another couple open our door. Next was dinner in Sylva. We were told that there were 5 restaurants open when only 3 were. We opted for one of the breweries but they would not seat us because it was Trivia night. Walked to the 2nd & 3rd restaurants to find them closed. Back to Lulu's.  We wanted a light meal, which they didn't offer. Ordered crab cake and fish. Crab cake was lukewarm and fish was tasteless. Back to hotel. Now our keys don't work.
Weds:  Went to make coffee in our room. Coffee maker didn't work. Breakfast was sub-par. One man in our group said the pancakes were like rubber.  Off to train. We took the later bus because of the weather. Train museum was interesting but not enough to spend hours there. Off to train.  We thought that the ride would be much more scenic than it was. Meal on the train was mediocre. We had the grilled chicken which was served around 2:00 PM. Then we had an hour layover at the top. WHY??  Back to the bus ride to the restaurants for dinner. Only 12 people in our group opted for dinner because most of us were not hungry. Back to  hotel to find that our room had not been made up. All we wanted was clean towels and trash removal. We  didn't care that the room was not cleaned.
Thurs: Went down for breakfast for decaf coffee.  Coffee machine didn't work. Called the attendant. She said the machine was clogged. Next was the bus ride to the flag museum. It was very interesting and the docents were very knowledgeable but not enough for a ten hour bus ride. Then we take the Southern route home which extended the  driving time.

All in all, a ten hour bus ride to go on a four hour train ride is really unacceptable.  The best thing about the trip was our bus driver, Donnie who must have nerves of steel to navigate the mountain roads in that weather.  Barbara & Stephen Ruszala

   

Thank you Sherry for taking the time to offer a review.  I sincerely appreciate it and will use your comments to improve in the future both regarding the group size and driver gratuity.  In the past I included gratuity until I learned that many of my clients felt that tipping was a personal gesture and preferred to do that on their own.  I think this mainly applies to my repeat clients who have a relationship with Donnie but since trips also include new clients, it may be time to reevaluate this and include gravity.  Thanks again!

It was a good trip.  Lots of things to see, drink and do.  
I was a travel agent/ group travel, many years ago.  In my opinion I think this was over booked.  Too many in this group.  Also, it was a surprise when they asked for tips for the bus driver.  My prices always included all gratuity.  

We had an enjoyable trip even though the weather was not ideal. Our accommodations were first rate, a wonderful stream was just outside my door and it was so relaxing to sit outside and enjoy. The days were planned well. The restaurants were very good. 


We were very pleased with our train trip last week.  Our talented leader Patty Rogers made sure we were comfortable in spite of the daily rain storms.  She was very knowledgeable about the different areas we visited .  We are so glad that we went on the trip!

I really enjoyed spending time with my Waterford friends and neighbors.  Patty & Kathie were extremely organized and lots of fun.  I especially enjoyed the train ride and gorgeous scenery along the way.  Our hotel room was basic but comfortable with an incredible view of the river.  

This is our second trip with Patty.  She and her second in command, Kathy, and her driver Donnie are real travel Pros.  We had lots of fun talking and laughing with the guests.  Patty puts on an excellent Trip.  
Terri and I give Patty TEN Stars for her organization, communication, and flexibility.  We plan to go on many more Trips with Patty.

Great trip for a mini getaway. Great flow of the trip . 

The trip was very enjoyable. Patti and her team were absolutely terrific. The agenda was well organized. Throughout the trip Patti and her assistant, Kathy, insured all passengers were well supplied with snacks and water. Patti is well versed in the places we visited and the activities we participated in. The highlight of the trip was the steam locomotive adventure out of Bryson City. Bryson City is a beautiful place with interesting shops and friendly people. I also found the Flag Museum (the only flag museum in the US) in Columbus, NC very interesting. This was my second trip with “Trips by Patty,” but not my last. I look forward to hitting the road again with Patti, Kathy, and the excellent driver, Donnie, sometime in the near future.

We had a great time, loved the First-Class Train experience.  The restaurant we ate in were a treat, nothing fast food for dinner.  AS usual the trip was well planned and executed without incident, with the exception of our fearless leader's trip and fall.  We hope Patty is home and recovering well.  
Looking forward to the next trip, I hear it might be a wine trip !!!!

Our Smokey Mountain Train bus trip was great!! In spite of some rainy weather, we were able to enjoy some wonderful autumn leaves and panoramic views in the NC mountains. Our group was mostly fellow residents of the Waterford community (Leland), as organized by our volunteer Waterford Travel Group (Jane V., Patty D., and Sue A.). Our driver (Donnie), guide (Kathy), and host (Patty) made the hours on the bus very enjoyable to visit with friends and neighbors. There were sufficient rest stops and incidental excursions going each direction. Our hotel provided an excellent atmosphere with a beautiful riverfront view from the rooms, breakfast, and comfortable areas for informal gatherings. We will look forward to future "Trips by Patty"!  -- Cindy & Bob 

This is a superb trip! This is our first experience visiting western NC. Patty and Doris did an excellent job arranging each step of the way. The bus trip was good, and the hotel selected was wonderful. We enjoyed the group that went, and the dining was also excellent. The train trip was literally first class, and we occupied the entire train car. Food and scenery were both excellent. The train stop at the Nantahala Outdoor  Center was special, seeing the rapids and the kayakers. If you're considering a fall NC leaf trip, you should reallt consider this one. We're happy to have done this and look forward to other trips with Patty in the future.

Dan and I had a wonderful time and it was a huge surprise birthday trip.  Patty did an amazing job putting this together.  The train ride was excellent and the food delicious.  The Best Western where we stayed was off the beaten path and couldn't have had a more perfect spot.  The river was so peaceful and serene, such a bonus.  We would travel with Patty every chance we get.  Looking forward for another trip.  Oh by the way, our bus driver Donnie was the best.  Would go with him anywhere.

So fun as always!! Patty and Donny ( and Doris) kept us safe, entertained and engaged with many wonderful activities!! Loved the train ride!!
