      About this trip

Join Haitian Nomad on a beautiful trip to one of Haiti's most paradise islands! Île-à-Vache, (also expressed Île-à-Vaches, former Spanish name Isla Vaca; all translate to Cow Island) is a Caribbean island, one of Haiti's satellite islands. It lies in the Baie de Cayes about 6.5 miles (10.5 km) off the coast of the country's southwest peninsula, roughly between the town of Les Cayes and Pointe l'Abacou. It was formerly known by the name of Abacca. Administratively, it became a commune in 1976 as part of the Les Cayes Arrondissement in the Sud department.

Île-à-Vache was claimed by the Spanish Empire in 1492 as part of Hispaniola, and for the next two centuries it was known by the name Isla Vaca. In 1697 the island of Hispaniola was formally divided between Spain and France in the Treaty of Ryswick which ended the Nine Years War. France assumed control of the western half of Hispaniola and named it Saint-Domingue, and Isla Vaca took on its current name, Île-à-Vache.

On this trip, you'll be staying on the island's best beachside resort with some rooms directly on the beach , you'll enjoy some amazing views and indulge in some amazing Haitian food.

Yesss what can I say! A returning customer who is a big advocate for Haitian Nomad trips because every time I attend, I know it will be special once in a lifetime experience and Colombia was no different. A well curated Interary that showed us the history and vibrant culture of Cartagena to the food and relaxation to indulge in. I look forward to my next trip and destination with HN.

The trip was well organized from pre-travel through departures. Communication was thorough and group chats were very helpful. Every detail was thought of when it came to transportation, tips, meals, etc. The restaurants selected for group dinners were a treat with good food and menus that included Columbian options. I loved that the trip was designed to help us experience the culture of the country rather than doing activities that I could do anywhere. The hotel was lovely. The breakfast and coffee were fabulous as was the service and the facility itself. Every corner was clean. Staff were super friendly and memorable. My favorite day was the visit to Palenque. I didn't know what to expect but enjoyed every minute and the tour guide. The parts of the city that I explored felt safe at all times. This was an unforgettable trip.

We are so fortunate that we have been able to see parts of the world with Haitian Nomad. I really wouldn't want to travel any other way. The accommodations, restaurants and tours have consistently been outstanding. Poiette is an awesome host. She communicated effectively with the entire group so that we were all on the same page; which is an amazing feat for a group of 24! All unexpected changes have been handled with professionalism and grace. I am looking forward to planning my next trip with Haitian Nomad.

Poiette’s 40th Cartagena Birthday was an incredible journey from start to finish. The combination of fellow travelers and local ambiance elevated it to one of my top 5 experiences. Returning to Cartagena for the second time only confirmed that it keeps getting better. I've lost track of how many trips I've taken with Haitian Nomad, and I have no intention of stopping anytime soon.
