with Mary Susan Stults

July 15th-22nd, 2023

The Garden Island of Kauai, Hawaii ~

Immerse next summer in Hawaii.

Finding beauty, balance, and stillness amidst the flux and flow of life. Meet in the land of rainbows where the ocean and soft sand beaches meets the towering green mountains and waterfalls.

Join me at home in Hawaii this upcoming summer on the picturesque, nature-laden, and majestic Garden Isle of Kauai, Hawaii July 15-22nd,, 2023 for an immersive, expansive, adventurous, joy-filled, and naturally luxurious week shared together on the lush and iconic North Shore.

Together we'll enjoy a return to and celebration of our True Nature and a recognition of our innate wholeness. We'll create a sense of spaciousness to slow down as we follow the natural rhythms of the sun, the moon, and the tides.

Let's soak up and enjoy a deep dive into our yoga and vipassana meditation practices, plenty of surfing, the Hawaiian culture and history, Mother Nature and our earthly roots, art and creativity, Paddleboarding, and into life lived fully and well.

Take some time in paradise to progress your yoga practice, surf and learn on the waves with an incredible local surf instructor, paddle, play, hike and explore, and enjoy that island life and plenty of beach days.

We'll enjoy a stay at the wonderful resort hotel and locale in Princeville and take advantage of all of their incredible amenities on site and endless activities surrounding us.

Retreat yourself next May in Hawaii and take time to explore the best beaches, get out into nature, venture to see other areas of the island, slow down and connect in a lei-making workshop, and enjoy time to enjoy our days to the utmost fullest.

We believe that community is medicine, and together we thrive.

I can hardly wait to share all of the beauty of my home with you all on retreat next January, xo

YOGA

We will be practicing once some days, and twice on most days and will be explore breath work, precise alignment and energetics of postures, the blueprint postures, meditation, reading and seeing bodies, the 8 limbs of yoga and living our yoga off the mat, restoratives, and more. We will begin most days with a morning practice and meet back on the mat in the afternoon for a workshop and asana lab to dive into and break down the asanas and practice in greater depth.

MEDITATION

We will enjoy guided meditation and will explore the style of Vipassana meditation also known as insight meditation. Within this style we will explore a variety of methods including breath meditation, and heart meditations including a compassion meditation and a metta or living kindness meditation. We will talk about the basics of meditation, finding a comfortable seat, and the roots of mindfulness.

Hiking

We will be getting out for a hike or two while on Kauai to further immerse in the lush vegetation and island flora and fauna surrounding us. Please plan on some uphill and incline hiking as many of Kauai's hikes go up up up for those exquisite island views, as well as mud and hiking amidst Kauai's gorgeous red dirt. Kauai's red dirt stains so please plan accordingly and bring some clothing and hiking shoes you do not care about getting muddy or stained.

Surfing

We will be heading our for surfing lessons with a local instructor during our retreat and will also have some free time to surf more or add additional lessons. We will surf on the north shore most likely on Hanalei Bay, but swell dependent.

Hanalei Bay is one of the most well-known spots on the island of Kauai, and there are many other spots in and around the bay. Hanalei itself is a long right point that breaks on the eastern side of the bay for up to 300 yards over lava reef.

It is a fairly powerful wave with occasional barrel sections that ends with an inside bowl section in the middle of the bay. Farther north, up and around the point from Hanalei, is a reefbreak right called Hideaways. Further inside the bay is PineTrees, which needs a larger swell and a good sandbar setup at the rivermouth. Directly across Hanalei Bay from the main point is a fickle left reefbreak called Waikokos, which needs a large N swell and W wind. The beloved pier offers friendly waves for all levels.

Hawaiian Lei Making

Immerse in the Hawaiian culture and learn the art and techniques of traditional lei making on the garden island of Kauai. Enjoy a lei-making workshop and immersive experience with Kaua'i-born and raised Ivory Kealani Lloyd in a beautiful workshop-style floral adventure using local and native flowers and plants.

Lodging --

Princeville, Hawaii - North Shore

We will be staying in several beautiful private homes/condos for the retreat.

Located in the heart of Princeville within a mile of many activities such as tennis, bike/exercise paths, golfing, surfing, snorkeling. Nearby beaches are at SeaLodge, Pu'u Poa, Pali Ke Kua (Hideaways). There are restaurants and shops all within the Princeville Resort Community. Foodland Supermarket, a gas station, a post office, and banks are about a mile away at the Princeville Center located to the left of the entrance to Princeville. The world-famous Hanalei Bay is just a few minutes drive. Hanalei town is home to unique and flavorful restaurants and food trucks, farmers market, shops, and beach equipment rental. Beyond that lies Tunnels Beach, Ke’e Beach and the Hanakapai‘ai trailhead, to name a few jewels. Traveling south you will find the newly opened Anaina Hou miniature golf course with a Hawaiian tropical theme. Beautiful retreat in Zion hosted by Mary, who was such a great host. Our daily hikes were so beautiful and challenging - feeling so much stronger! Morning meditation and yoga workshopping was so helpful - as I am a newly qualified YTT. We stayed right in Springdale, super central location - lots of great coffee shops and stores.

While the scenery/hiking was beyond incredible, the drama that was promulgated by the leader, coupled with no daily agenda shared before the retreat started, oversetting expectations of what we’d do on the retreat, failure to ask the participants (the ones who paid) what was most important to experience, lack of consideration for the intense heat and starting things early to appropriately manage the risks of heat exhaustion and dehydration, lack of understanding another participant’s limitations/fears on a hike, not fully preparing us for the hikes (food, water, etc.), sharing misinformation about Angels Landing which almost caused some to miss experiencing it if it had not been for my research the night before, and expectation of me and a friend to drive other retreat participants around town and to a hike 45 minutes away while being offered no reimbursement for doing so attributes to my rating of this trip. Additionally, this was my third trip with her, I brought along two friends and choose to attend during a monumental birthday. Bottom line, I’m returning feeling depleted and exhausted by the drama and wished I would have done another trip over such an important birthday. While I would highly recommend the location, I’d look elsewhere for a leader/retreat or put it together on your own.

I had never done a solo trip or been to a yoga retreat before and this trip exceeded all my expectations. Mary Susan is one of the nicest and kindest people you will ever meet. The retreat was restorative, healing, full of community and love, so much fun, and just what I needed at this time of my life. I can't thank Mary enough for sharing her practice and her beautiful home, Kaua'i, with us. This trip turned out to be one of my best travels to date, and the experience will always stay with me. Mahalo, Mary, we love you!

BEST ADVENTURE TRIP!!!! We did Kauai like the locals - visiting hidden beaches, unknown swimming holes, deserted rivers and waterfalls. Mary knows the North Shore because she loves it, and she shares it all with her retreat attendees. Mary is an accomplished Yogini and SUP teacher, you will have a great time and learn a lot too. Just do it! One of my favorite experiences ever. Mahalo Mary!

Mary gave us a wonderful trip. I enjoyed her easy-to-follow breakdown of popular yoga poses. I found that it enhanced my experience and improved my physical/mental connection to the poses and yoga practice in general. I fell back in love with power yoga again after years of it being stale. Her yoga nidra and restorative yoga practice reinforced some great mantras and relayed positive reinforcement and good vibes. She’s truly lovely and has practiced from the best. The travel experiences were so much fun and very relaxing. I felt very safe and loved throughout the whole trip. Could not have asked for a better facilitator.
