Ollantaytambo – Km 82 – Llactapata- Ayapata
We will pick you up after breakfast around 8:am from your hotel and drive for 30 minutes to km 82. Here, we will start your Inca TreXperience! The first part it's a relatively easy two-hour walk to Patallacta; the first Inca site along the trail. It’s then another two-hour walk to Hatunchaca – located in the heart of the Inca trail - where lunch will be waiting. We will walk for another two hours to the first campsite located in Ayapata, arriving at approximately 5:00 pm. You will then have some time to rest and enjoy the view of the mountains before dinner.

Ayapata – Warmiwañuska – Runcuraccay – Chaquicocha
Wake you up bright and early with a hot cup of coffee or coca tea. Today will be the most challenging. After breakfast, we will start the 4-hour trek uphill to Dead Woman’s Pass. At 4215m / 13829ft., at the summit, we will take time to appreciate the serenity of this location. After a 2-hour downhill trek to lunch. The second pass is an easier 2-hours climb and we will take time to explore two Inca sites along the way; RuncuRaccay and Sayacmarca. It’s then a 20-minute walk to the second campsite at Chaquicocha (dry lake, 3600m / 11811 ft.), this is the perfect place to stargaze!

CHAQUICCOCHA – PHUYUPATAMARCA – WIÑAYWAYNA
Today’s route is extremely varied and it is only a 5-hour walk to the final campsite. Along the way, you will pass through a number of different ecosystems, experience the atmospheric cloud forest and observe the magnificent panoramic view of Salkantay Mountain. We will visit two Inca sites; Phuyupatamarka (City in the Clouds), and Intipata (Terraces of the Sun). We will reach the campsite at approximately 1:00 pm to have lunch and you can then enjoy some free time to relax and unwind. Later in the afternoon, we will visit another impressive Inca site - Wiñay Wayna - We will then return to the campsite for tea and dinner and a special surprise!

WIÑAYWAYNA – MACHU PICCHU
On our final day, we have to get up very early to prepare for the highlight of your TreXperience; visiting Machu Picchu - the Lost City of the Incas. We will go straight to the checkpoint and wait until it opens at 5:30 am. We will walk for an hour to the Sun Gate. On a clear day, you can watch the spectacular sunrise over Machu Picchu from the Sun Gate, which is truly an unforgettable sight. We will then start our one-hour descent towards Machu Picchu. Your guide will take you on a two-hour comprehensive tour of the city before leaving you in Machu Picchu to explore on your own or climb either Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (tickets must be booked as far in advance as possible). Your guide will explain how to take the bus from Machu Picchu to Aguas Calientes for lunch and then take the train and bus back to Cusco. The Trexperience Team will meet you off the train and return you safely to your hotel.

We had a really great time on the Inka Trail with our guides José and Sara and the whole group! The food was really delicious and always on time! 🤩 We loved every moment of the trip!

Great trip thank you. We saw the numerous interesting Inca sites and an alpaca farm, with a very nice buffet lunch. The day was packed with content. Particular thanks to our guide Katya, whose enthusiasm and knowledge seemed to be boundless. She is proud of her beautiful country and heritage, and rightly so. Thanks again for providing this experience.

Trexperience were amazing for the Inca Trail. Great food. Amazing the work the porters do. But our guides were next level in looking after us.

The company did an outstanding job getting our group through 4 days of hiking. The breakfast, lunch, and dinners they served were unexpectedly very good and plentiful. Sleeping inside the tents was made comfortable with foam and air mattresses along with sleeping bags and pillows. Unfortunately the government is in charge of the bathroom facilities which were pretty bad, they only had flour toilets and in some cases they were quite dirty, not the fault of the company. A lot of the companies that use the Inka trail don't properly pasteurized the drinking water many hikers get diarrhea so bring anti-diarrhea medicine and consider bringing something that can filter the bacteria our of the drinking water they provide. I think I was the only one in my group who got diarrhea, fortunately I brought medicine with me and I started using my filter once it started. Fortunately it only lasted two days and it wasn't bad. The floors of one bathroom facility was covered in diarrhea by another company's group by the time we got there, that was pretty bad. There was only one cold shower facility available at the end of the third day hiking, however, all the bathrooms at the camping sites have large sinks which you can use to at least wash your hair and face. I packed baby wipes, which worked well at cleaning the rest of me and that I used to when I went #2. We saw so many archeological sites along the 4 days hiking, it was amazing. I would definitely do this hike again but would use filter/straw that removes bacteria from the drinking water they provide. Also it's very important to be in Cusco (or high altitude town) at least 3 days before the hike to get acclimated to the altitude. Taking one aspirin (325 mg) and one ginkgo biloba (120 mg) per day starting one week before you arrive at high altitudes towns like Cusco (11,000 ft above sea level) and throughout your stay will help prevent altitude sickness (headaches, nausea, etc). Bring rain gear and use the plastic poncho they provide. My rain gear didn't work that well but the poncho did.
