      Cape May, NJ

Visit America’s original seaside resort</strong> - Cape May distinguishes herself in many ways. It has the pristine beaches, promenade, and all the amenities that make any seashore town worth visiting, but it also boasts a rich history and an architectural diversity equal to none.  In 1976, the Cape May Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Hereford Inlet Lighthouse

Hereford Inlet Lighthouse has been a beacon of safety and assurance to mariners since the 17th century. It was first used by whalers to haul in and butcher their catches. As the use of the Inlet, and coastal shipping continued to increase over the years, so did the number of shipwrecks. The Hereford Inlet Lighthouse was constructed to mark the mouth of the Inlet, which would help prevent shipwrecks. The Hereford Inlet Lighthouse stands on the south side of the Hereford Inlet, which leads from the Atlantic Ocean to the Intra-Costal Waterway linking Maine to Florida. This wood frame, residential style Lighthouse was first lit on May 1th, 1874 and was designed by the Lighthouse Boards Chief Draftsman, Paul J. Pelz, who later went on to gain recognition as the designer of the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.

      Cape May Lighthouse

The present tower, which is the third documented lighthouse at the southern tip of New Jersey, has been an aid-to-navigation for mariners and attraction for visitors since it was built in 1859. More than 2.5 million visitors have climbed the lighthouse since it opened to the public in 1988. For those who choose not to climb, the Oil House on the grounds contains a fully accessible Visitors’ Orientation Center and Museum Shop carrying souvenirs, books and maritime items. The state park offers many amenities for nature lovers and family fun.

      Fenwick Island Lighthouse

Fenwick Island, Delaware is a barrier island that lies at the very southern border of Delaware with Maryland.  In the mid Nineteenth Century, an increasing number of shipwrecks near the Fenwick Shoals, about 6 miles off-shore of Fenwick Island, prompted the United States Lighthouse Board to recommend the construction of a lighthouse to help mariners avoid the shoals. Congress agreed with the Lighthouse Board and authorized $25,000 in 1856 for establishment of a lighthouse on Fenwick Island. The United States Government paid Mary Hall $50 for ten acres of land for what was considered the highest point on the island, the site was just feet from the Transpeninsular Marker that defines the Delaware and Maryland State lines.  The station was completed and the lamp was lit for the first time August 1,1859.

      Assateague Island Lighthouse

The Assateague Lighthouse is located on the Virginia portion of Assateague Island. The Coast Guard has maintained the lighthouse for many years. Ownership of the lighthouse was transferred to the Fish & Wildlife Service from the Coast Guard in 2004. While the U.S. Coast guard still maintains the light as an active navigational aid, the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge is responsible for preserving the lighthouse. The top of the lighthouse is accessible to the public (see the visitor schedule). It is still operational and one of the most impressive landmarks in Virginia.

The food was tasty (Haddock), the show was varied: singers, comic, Irish dancers and the venue was scenic and accommodating such a large group of persons. Good time had by my table!

We had a better table location this time than last time. The food was OK, I'm not really a corn beef and cabbage person. The waiting time between dinner and show was a bit long but the show was very good. Loved the comedian he was very good.
