About this trip

This traveling exploration provides a unique, insiders look into the history and future of a fascinating culture.  12 Days to Vietnam and an extension is offered for a week total in Laos and Cambodia.

Although many westerners still imagine Vietnam through the lens of war, it is in reality a country filled with captivating natural beauty and tranquil village life. Over four decades have passed since Vietnam was officially united, and in that time it has done a remarkable job of healing its wounds. Shaped like an elongated S, Vietnam stretches the length of the Indochinese Peninsula and covers a surface area of 128,000 square miles--making it roughly the size of Italy or, in the U.S., New Mexico. China lies to the north, Laos and Cambodia to the west, and the South China Sea to the east. We will be immersed into the pulses that anchor the North (Hanoi) with the South (Ho Chi Minh City/Saigon.)  Highlights in Vietnam will include day trips to the famous authentic Cu Chi Tunnels (most tourists go to the fake ones made for tourists.) An exclusive home-hosted dinner at the former home of Henry Cabot Lodge, the American Ambassador to Vietnam under President Kennedy, an exclusive visit to a puppetmaker with our own private show (not the touristy one in Hanoi!), private receptions with artists and authors. Just take a look at the itinerary!

For the extension: Former Royal Capital of Laos, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Luang Prabang is nestled amongst rolling green mountains. It is not only one of the most beautiful cities in the South-East Asia, but quite possibly the world.  However, the real stars of our visit to this city are The Elephant Sanctuary and Kuang Si Waterfalls.  The Elephant Sanctuary for the Asian Elephant is a place where you can have a life changing experience and where we will all have the ultimate elephant encounter by interacting with these gentle giants.

Siem Reap, a resort town in northwestern Cambodia, is the gateway to the famous ruins of Angkor and the seat of the powerful Khmer kingdom between the 9th and 15th centuries. The temples today are one of Asia’s biggest tourist attractions and what everyone comes here for (after all, they are spectacular) but Siem Reap has so much more to offer tourists outside of its temple walls; from jungle adventures to a vibrant culture to luxury hotels and a fabulous nightlife.  From the looming mystical edifices to the spiritual Aspara Dancers to our foray at stone carving, Siem Reap will long be remembered!
