In the heart of our journey, Kootenay Yoga School was created from a profound belief in holistic well-being. Recognizing the challenges of modern life, where daily routines can become repetitive cycles of wakefulness, nourishment, work, and rest, we felt the need for a sanctuary that transcends the ordinary. Our vision materialized as Kootenay Yoga School, an embodiment of holistic living.

This was a very challenging course, specifically the first week and should not be underestimated. Be mentally prepared for long hours, lots of readings, studying and hours of physical training. Yet the course slows down week two and things naturally fall together. I promise there is a big shining light at the end of the tunnel! The staff make this challenge worth while. You feel so accomplished and successful once you’re over the hump! They have so many thoughtful surprises coming your way. Also your yoga practice flourishes over this short while. I’ve never felt so fit in my life. I felt so supported by Kevin, who always greeted us with a smile and went above and beyond to ensure our stay was up to standards. His customer service and warm heart will make your stay. Diana & Cidney in kitchen will work hard to ensure you are well nourished and are always creating new fun vegetarian dishes. Marcia is a fantastic yoga teacher and I can say with honesty she gave me the best yoga practice I’ve ever had. She puts in so much work into her sequences and has extensive knowledge on yoga, history and Sanskrit. Kootney Yoga School was a honour to attend. They put a lot of thought into the program. The location is perfectly nestled in between two beaches 2 min walk each way. One beach is great for the swimming, the other for walks, runs and meditation.

The team on site was so professional and make sure that we had the best experience ever ! The food is absolutely amazing too ! And Marcia, our yoga teacher was such a great human. She is really caring and make sure that everyone is included and succeed. What a honor to have learned from her ! Thank for all the Kootenay team for making those last 2 weeks unforgettable. I took the RYT 200 Program with Sarah in January 2024 and it was absolutely amazing. This program allowed me to elevate my Yoga game to the next level. I had bit of trouble arriving to the Island due to delayed flights and Lisa (the Manager) was really helpful and even picked me up at the ferry terminal to arrive on time to the first class. Sarah was such an incredible teacher, she thought us everything we had to know to be the best version of ourselves in order to be ready to be awesome yoga instructors. The program is held on Isla Mujeres, which is a wonderful island with hands down the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. I enjoyed myself so much taking this program and really recommend it to 100% - you won’t regret it.

Great service, very helpful to have everything planned. However you can also easily uber from the airport the port for $25, get a ferry ticket for I think $15 and then a taxi from the port on Isla Mujeres to the retreat center for about $10-15. Depends if you want to do everything on your own or have it organized for you.

Hi Maria! Thank you so much for the positive review! The uber rate by GOV't regulation is $70 USD to Puerto J as it is 7 zones. If you get it cheaper, be aware it is against federal traffic law. The ferry is actually $489 Peso for non residents which is $34 USD with current rate. The taxi from the port on isla to us is $200 peso without luggage and $240 assuming you have luggage you save around $60 USD using our service vs winging it. We have a lot of very upset students who choose to wing it and spend 190-300 USD getting over to us.... The $150 investment is much safer. But sometimes it is part of the experience and fun to try to negotiate a better rate :) Hope you can be back soon!@!!

Highly recommend this YTT experience. 1) Lisa (owner of company) was gracious in offering her time to answer all questions I had about the course prior to my registering. 2) The grounds staff at the retreat center in Isla Mujeres were kind, helpful, and attentive. They help organize anything you need while on the island- tourist experiences, massages, etc. 3) Food was fresh and healthy. Lots of amazing fresh fruit. Tends to be vegetarian if not vegan, but if you want to get something else, you can walk 5 minutes from the retreat center to get a taco or another snack at a nearby convenience store. No need to bring snacks from home because you are well fed, and if you want to purchase junk food you can do so nearby. 4) Marcia was an amazing teacher. She opened space to listen to our questions and reflections about course material while keeping the course organized and on schedule. She was kind and friendly but also professional. 5) Schedule is packed, as you would expect during a 200 hr training- make sure you are well rested when you come! I liked that this course did not just cover poses (asanas), but also anatomy, philosophy, and history of yoga. 6) About a 5 minute walk from the coast on either side- one side is cliffs (great for sitting/ reflecting) the other side you can swim if you're willing to climb over some rocks. 7) When I was down there, mosquitos were very bad and though I wore strong repellent every day, I still got lots of bites. Still, I had no issues with Dengue. 8) Area around retreat center felt very safe. Could walk alone with no satefy or security issues.

I have completed the 200-hour yoga teacher training with Kootenay Yoga School at their beautiful location in Isla Mujeres Mexico (a small Island in the Caribbean Sea). Where to start? Sign up and be totally comfortable that u’ll have the best experience. The location is in a jungle vibe, modest, clean & organized. The food is vegetarian, organic, super healthy prepared by a talented young lady - Addy the owner’s daughter, who works hard to make sure every dietary requirement is met. Lisa, the owner, is a professional woman who is very meticulous and follows up with every detail, making the experience worthy. The whole team, from Kandice, Silvia, to the kitchen staff are very helpful and kind. Stephania (Steff) our teacher made every lesson interesting and enjoyable, the fire and energy in her, the knowledge she shared in Anatomy, was outstanding as if a doctor is explaining. The course is intensive, however, well divided throughout the days. Steff is also flexible and no matter how tired one is, we would put the effort to be punctual in her classes and enjoy the information shared. I was lucky to be with amazing people from different countries and cultures, we clicked and had so much fun together. Yes, it’s hot and humid and u need mosquito repellent. It’s not that bad at all. The beach is 5’ walk from the school and it’s breathtaking. So is Punta Sur most easternmost point of Mexico and u get to see numerous iguanas in that region too. I felt so safe in the school and the whole island. 💜🧘🏻‍♀️
