Arrive in Kutaisi and settle into the hotel before exploring the colorful Green Market. In the evening, meet the group over our first traditional Georgian dinner.
Begin the journey into the Caucasus with a hands-on Georgian cooking experience and lunch with a local family. Continue through the mountains to Mestia, our base in the heart of Svaneti.
Head to Tetnuldi for equipment checks, warm-up runs and an introduction to the terrain. We’ll also complete our first practical avalanche session, covering beacon, shovel and probe use and companion-rescue skills.
Build confidence with uphill skinning, kick turns, transitions, terrain assessment and safe group travel. We’ll put those skills into practice on a short guided tour before enjoying more of Tetnuldi’s freeride terrain.
Travel to the beautiful Mazeri Valley for our first full backcountry objective. Expect a full day of climbing and skiing surrounded by some of Svaneti’s most dramatic peaks.
Tour into the high country above Mestia toward the Koruldi Lakes, reaching approximately 2,850 meters. This route offers expansive Caucasus views and a rewarding descent back toward the valley.
Enjoy a day of resort and off-piste skiing at Hatsvali and Zuruldi, followed by time to explore Mestia. Visit the Svaneti Museum and learn about the region’s towers, traditions and mountain history.
Travel by 4x4 to remote Ushguli, one of Europe’s highest continuously inhabited settlements. From here, set out on a 5–7-hour guided tour on Mt. Gvibari before sharing dinner at our local Svan guesthouse.
Climb toward Dadiashi Ridge for another full day of ski touring in the mountains surrounding Ushguli. The objective will involve approximately 1,030 vertical meters of ascent, followed by a long backcountry descent.
Explore the terrain beneath Shkhara, Georgia’s highest mountain, with a guided tour toward Mt. Kareta or the Lamaria Ridge. The guides will select the best objective based on snow, weather and group conditions.
Leave Svaneti and travel toward Tbilisi, stopping for a traditional qvevri winery experience and a pottery visit in Shrosha. After arriving in the capital, unwind in Tbilisi’s historic sulfur baths before dinner.
Explore Old Tbilisi with a local guide, ride the cable car toward Narikala Fortress and take in the city’s best viewpoints. Enjoy free time in the afternoon before a final Georgian feast with traditional music and polyphonic singing.
Enjoy breakfast and say goodbye to the group before transferring to the airport for the journey home.
Hi, I’m Micaela: the founder of Off Trail Adventures, a lifelong traveler, trip leader, and professional “book the flight anyway” person.
After traveling to more than 50 countries, I created Off Trail Adventures to bring people together through meaningful, active, and slightly off-the-beaten-path experiences. My trips are designed to feel less like a traditional group tour and more like traveling with a group of adventurous friends, with a focus on local culture, unforgettable experiences, and supporting the communities we visit.
I’ll be there to handle the details, keep the energy high, and make sure you have an incredible time!
