New York City may be small in size, but it’s huge in numbers, energy and attitude. It’s the most densely populated city in North America with 8 million citizens on just 830 square kilometers of land. It has always been a city of immigrants, and, even today, about one-third of its citizens are foreign-born. Roughly 138 languages are spoken here, and vibrant new ethnic enclaves pop up all over the city, offering visitors a vast array of interesting cultural and culinary experiences.

While the city pulses with the blood of its newest residents, old New York is still alive and well. Opera still bursts from the venerable stage of the Lincoln Center. Wall Street, the hive of capitalism, still bustles with the excitement and tension of the stock market. And the stately apartments of New York’s wealthy still frame majestic Central Park.

New York has become one of America’s safest cities, and the best way to see it is to walk. Numbered streets in Manhattan make navigation easy and run from east to west, while avenues intersect from north to south (uptown and downtown). New Yorkers are friendly and talkative, and nearly every night of the week the city’s bars and clubs are crowded with revelers. There are several universities in New York, which contribute to keeping the city fresh and young.

In such an event SWTG will endeavor to obtain as much of a refund as possible for the traveler from vendors (e.g. transportation companies, tour operators, etc.), but will not be liable for the same. SWTG cannot guarantee a full refund. The traveler will abide by the schedule of payments agreed upon with SWTG in the Travel Participant Agreement, and the laws of the State of Tennessee shall govern this agreement.

SWTG shall have the sole right, at any time in its discretion and without liability or cost to SWTG, to cancel any tour at any time in the event of any tour being rendered impossible, impractical or inadvisable by weather, strikes, war, terrorism, acts of God, epidemics, pandemics, spreading of infectious diseases, political events, protests, riots governmental interference or restrictions, or any cause whatsoever that is beyond SWTG’s control and/or makes the trip impossible or impractical. In such an event SWTG will endeavor to obtain as much of a refund as possible for the participant from vendors (e.g. transportation companies, tour operators, etc.), but will not be liable for the same. SWTG cannot guarantee a full refund in the event of a full group or individual trip cancellation. However, SWTG will work on the group’s behalf to recoup as much of the travel investment back as possible from vendors that have been paid on the traveler’s behalf.

This memorial museum tells the individual stories of the 2,977 people killed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and on Flight 93, as well as the six people who perished in the February 26, 1993 World Trade Center bombing. The historical exhibition presents the story of those attacks and particularly, the events as they unfolded on and after 9/11.

Also visit the 9/11 Memorial- A moving tribute to the fallen victims of the 9/11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, built on the area formerly referred to as ‘Ground Zero’ in the aftermath of the events. Visit Central Park

This iconic 843-acre park was planned to give New Yorkers a respite from the hustle and bustle of the big city, and the designers did such a good job that when relaxing on one of the huge lawns, it's often hard to believe you're right in the middle of Manhattan. The park also contains world-class museums and hosts countless activities and concerts, especially in the summer months.

Things to see:

The Pond and Gapstow Bridge - The Pond is the southernmost body of water in the park. It is entirely man-made and is fed from the city water supply system. Gapstow Bridge arches over the Pond and offers one of the best views of Midtown from Central Park. It is a classic spot for a photo so have your camera ready.

The Mall - The Mall is the only path laid out as a straight line in the park. The designers did that so that there could be a big buildup leading to Bethesda Terrace, north of the Mall. The trees create a “cathedral ceiling” over the pathway. The American Elm trees that line both sides of the Mall, one of the largest collections of these trees in the United States. The Mall quickly became a popular spot for wealthy New Yorkers when the park opened. It was New York’s answer to Hyde Park or the Bois du Boulogne. Carriages would drop people off at the start of The Mall and then loop around to the top to pick them up. Also along the pathway is the Literary Walk, a collection of statues of famous writers. William Shakespeare is the first statue of the walk. Many famous photographs and film scenes have been filmed here such as Doctor Who, Jessica Jones, Person of Interest and movie Enchanted.

Statue of Balto - Head out of the zoo and then cut over towards the center of the park. Look for the statue of a dog along the path! This statue is donated to all of the sled dogs that participated in the Great Race of Mercy, a dogsled run that relayed diphtheria antitoxin to the town of Nome, Alaska in 1925, effectively saving the town. Balto, the dog featured in the statue, was the lead dog of the final team. He was present for his statue’s dedication later that year. The statue’s shiny appearance comes from all of the children in the park “petting” him!

Bethesda Arcade - The underground Arcade was designed to be a contrast to the openness of Bethesda Terrace that it leads to. Look up and see the spectacular ceiling, with 15,000 tiles made by the famous Minton Tile Company of England. The Bethesda Arcade is the only place in the world where these tiles are used for a ceiling. The ceiling was designed by Jacob Wrey Mould, who also designed many of the decorative carvings seen on Bethesda Terrace. It was completed in 1869. The ceiling weighs around 50 tons, and over the years the tiles deteriorated. In the 1980s they were removed and placed in storage. After many years and many donations, the ceiling was restored in 2000. The acoustics in the Arcade is wonderful, so take a minute to enjoy whatever musician is performing there when you visit.
