Petra, One of the New 7 Wonders of the World
The Rose City of Petra is a historical and archaeological city, described by UNESCO as “one of the most precious cultural properties of man’s cultural heritage.” It flourished in the first century AD, when its famous Treasury was constructed.
We’ll enter the city through the Siq, a dark narrow gorge about .6 miles in length flanked on both sides by soaring cliffs. The Siq leads to the massive façade of the Treasury, carved out of the sheer, dusky pink rock-face and dwarfing everything around it. It was carved in the early first century as the tomb of an important Nabatean king.
From there, you’ll be able to explore sites such as the Obelisk Tomb, Calligraphy, Jabal Madbach (the sacrificial palace), Tombs, Theater, and Mountaintop Tombs.
After dinner, you might choose an optional excursion back to the Rose City to experience the Petra Night Show, a magical way to see part of the rock city by candlelight. This incomparable experience starts by walking the Siq to the Treasury, lit with over 1,500 candles. This optional tour happens from 8:30-10:30 pm.
Day Tour to Jerusalem, Israel
We will make the 90-minute drive to cross the border into Jerusalem, Israel.
As a holy city for Judaism, Christianity and Islam, Jerusalem has always been of great symbolic importance. In 1981, the Old City of Jerusalem was recognized as a UNESCO official site. Within a small walled area, it is home to 220 historic monuments, including the Wailing Wall, where thousands of Jewish pilgrims gather to pray; and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which contains the site where Jesus was crucified, and his empty tomb.
We’ll see age-old religious and historical sites like the sacred Via Dolorosa - The Way of the Cross, and the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus prayed before his crucifixion. Stroll along part of the Cardo, Byzantine Jerusalem’s main thoroughfare, and finish your explorations of Jerusalem with a walk through the Jewish Quarter.
Then we’ll drive to Bethlehem, the holy city that was the birthplace of Jesus. We’ll explore Manger Square, including the Church of the Nativity, built on the site of Jesus’ birthplace.
Wadi Rum, the Valley of Light
Wadi Rum is one of the world’s most iconic and spectacular desert landscapes. (Much of the 1962 movie Lawrence of Arabia was shot here!) This 278 square miles of mountains, rock bridges, sand dunes, and notable sites is home to several hundred Bedouin inhabitants with their goat-hair tents and camels.
We’ll take an off-road jeep tour of the desert landscape with Bedouin guides. You’ll see some of the most breathtaking desert scenery in the world, and gain insight into Bedouin culture and hospitality. We’ll see petroglyphs etched into the cave walls depicting humans and antelopes dating back to the 8th century BC.
Our trucks will drop us off at the Bedouin camp where we’ll spend the night in deluxe tents with private bathrooms and AC/heaters. (Upgrade available to Martian Dome.) We’ll enjoy dinner prepared by our hosts, and music under the stars before bed.
Dead Sea
We’ll visit the Dead Sea where the warm, soothing, super salty water – 10 times saltier than sea water - is rich in chloride salts of magnesium, sodium, potassium and bromine.
Madaba, The City of Mosaics
Visit Madaba – best known for its spectacular Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics. The city is home to the famous sixth century mosaic map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land, which has two million pieces of colored stone.
Mount Nebo, Pilgrimage Site for Early Christians
Early Christians from Jerusalem made pilgrimage to Mount Nebo, where a small church was built in the fourth century to commemorate Moses’ life. Today the basilica houses a stunning collection of Byzantine mosaics.
Full Day Tour of Amman and Jerash
Tour the Jordanian capital of Amman, referred to in the Bible as the Ammonite Kingdom. Amman is a fascinating city of contrasts, a unique blend of old and new, located between the desert and the fertile Jordan Valley.
The ancient city of Jersash boasts an unbroken chain of human occupation dating back more than 6500 years. The city’s golden age came during Roman rule, and is generally acknowledged to be one of the best preserved Roman provincial towns in the world.

Take your packing cues from the weather.
Daily high temperatures in November will be 61°F, rarely falling below 52°F or exceeding 81°F.
Daily low temperatures will be 45°F, rarely falling below 38°F or exceeding 59°F.
In November, the percentage of time that the sky is overcast or mostly cloudy is 28%.
The chance of a wet day is about 10%.
Long-sleeved tops and long pants will cover you from the sun and protect against mosquitoes at night. We suggest keeping to light, neutral colors e.g. khaki, green and brown – although not white as it will get dirty and dusty very quickly. Bring a versatile travel jacket as it might get really chilly in the evenings at some places.
