Itinerary

Day 1
Depart Chicago for Guatemala

Depart from Chicago and journey to Guatemala, a country otherwise known as the “Land of Trees” and once referred to as the ‘closest thing to Eden on earth” by Lonely Planet. After claiming your luggage and clearing customs in Guatemala City, you will be met by your local guide and transferred to Antigua.

Antigua is a small city surrounded by volcanoes in southern Guatemala. It’s renowned for its Spanish colonial buildings, many of them restored following a 1773 earthquake.

Check-in at the Good Hotel which we have chosen for its wonderful location and relaxed and friendly environment. It is also known for the unique and significant role it plays in giving back to the local community of Antigua. All net profits from the hotel go directly to funding three local schools that have been established to educate over 500 children in underserved communities in Guatemala.

Your private guide will take you on a walking tour of Antigua, a UNESCO world heritage site. Explore Antigua’s beautiful streets and visit the famous and important places in Antigua, including churches, ruins, monuments, the local market, the central park and more. Important highlights of the walking tour include the famous La Merced Church and the Arco de Santa Catalina (pictured).

This trip was inspiring for me to reconnect with my family roots. It was so nice to see friends from a previous trip. I enjoyed all the music making experiences, especially making the bodhran at the Irish Institute of Music. The country side in Ireland is beautiful. I enjoyed seeing all the houses, land, and sheep. The Gap of Dunloe was incredible. This 2 hour trip in a horse drawn cart seemed like a Star Wars movie set. I am especially grateful for the connections we all made during the trip, whether it was with our Guide, the local people and with my fellow travelers.

This was an amazing trip. The Group immediately gelled into a family-like entity. The itinerary was fast paced, filled with great information and hands on experiences. I felt we were able to see the "real" Ireland, and not the usual tourist sites. The accommodations were top notch. The food was outstanding. The only thing that would have made it better would have been another week. I would do it all over in a heartbeat!

This trip was wonderful! We immersed ourselves in the culture with music, dance, food, history, and many sites. The country was green, clean and the people very welcoming. Our guide was very good with making sure we saw and did not only the itinerary but added little surprises along the way to add to our experience. A very enjoyable trip.
