About this trip

Tibet is one of the world’s great travel experiences. Serk offers you the chance to surround yourself in the ancient cultures of Tibet and ride through its stunning landscapes all the way to the iconic Everest Base Camp.

Since 2014 we've carefully crafted experiences which regularly stop you in your tracks and leave you feeling privileged to have explored this unique region—before it falls completely into the clutches of modernisation.

We combine a challenging and spectacular cycling route with a selection of the most rewarding cultural and natural sites.

Push yourself to ride up some of the highest sealed roads in the world, then grin from ear-to-ear as you fly down the other side of a 5000m pass. You'll leave with not only an amazing 7-days of high-altitude cycling in your legs, but a new understanding of one of the most incredible cultures on earth.

Why Serk?

We are the pioneers.

We've been running this trip since 2014 and pioneered the road route to Everest. We were the first to ride it on road bikes after it was opened in 2016. Each year we modify the itinerary to take advantage of newly opened roads, hotels and restaurants.

Altitude experience.

We also have a lot of experience with riding at altitude - in 2018 our team successfully completed an ‘Everesting at Everest’ and we also partnered with CyclingTips for an attempt the year before. We’ve pushed the boundaries of endurance cycling at altitude and are very aware of how it affects riders. We have carefully planned a route that helps with acclimatisation without wasting too much time.

Transportation.

We custom build a vehicle just for our Tibetan trips. A pro tour vehicle design from Michelton Scott was adapted for our needs in Tibet. Our van securely and safely transports up to 20 bikes including thru-axle disc brake models. On transit days there is some rough terrain and our secure storage ensures your top level bike will be well protected against damage. We have a full tool kit and a coffee machine to perk you up as you reach each of the summits.

We also ensure we always have 2 vehicles in case of emergency and seats for every single rider all of the time.

Cycling know-how.

We are passionate cyclists and live for exploring new frontiers on two wheels. We enjoy curating a hard but rewarding day on the bike. Our 30 years of racing and riding around the globe ensures we get it right most of the time!

Testimonials

We went to astonishing places where no one in the normal population has experience let alone the cycling world.
Eddy, Hong Kong

I've been living, traveling and riding in China for over 5 years. Riding in China can be rough, amazing or both at the same time. Visiting Tibet was always on my bucket list since I had set a foot in the country. Since there is no option to discover this fascinating area on your own, I was happy to stumble across the Serk trip which allowed me to combine two of my passions with likeminded people: Exploring and Riding. And what can I say, Serk delivered big-time. It was rough, amazing and both at the same time. The feeling of riding towards the Base Camp with a clear view on Everest has been stuck in my mind since that day and still makes me shiver. I'm glad I could tick one more thing off my bucket list.

Trying to explain to someone about this journey we have all been on cannot be explained fully by pictures or words. It has been an experience that has touched our hearts in so many ways. I must say that with challenges of altitude, a developing area and the fact nobody else had been running an expedition of this scale gave me reason to be concerned.  I had to be convinced to come and had low expectations.

I was truly blown away by Serk's experience in the end. From a cycling point of view it was expertly curated. The vehicle support we had was incredible (considerably more than trips of this price I've experienced in Europe and US). We got to ride on roads where no other cyclists can go. Riding a bike through these amazing landscapes enabled us to experience local villages, culture and Tibetan people up close - you can't do that on a bus. Not only that but through the challenge of riding the high passes with a bunch of other riders from diverse backgrounds I also made lifelong new friendships. I want to thank Serk for a truly unforgettable experience.

This is without doubt the best trip I have ever done. Serk do everything for you, all you have to do is ride your bike and enjoy the best roads and views in the world.  Cycling to Everest Base Camp with Serk.cc should be on every cyclist's Bucket List. Just Do It - you won't regret it. #BestTripEver
