We will have an early departure, with possibly a boxed breakfast, to get on the road to Petra.

We are on the way to the rock formation made popular by Indian Jones (well, maybe there are a few other reasons it’s so popular) the city of Petra.  

Once the ancient Nabatean capital, this city gently reveals itself as our private guide leads us through its hand carved facades to the once hidden entrance to the lost city. After passing some tombs which are located outside the city, the visitor passes through the SIQ, an immense crack in the Nubian sandstone. It is a winding, one-kilometer-long fissure between overhanging cliffs that seem to meet more than 300 feet overhead. 

Near the end of the passage, the SIQ, with great style, makes one last turn and out of the gloom in towering brightness appears Petra’s most impressive monument, el Khazneh - The Treasury. We step from nature’s exquisite handiwork to man’s architectural feats. A feeling that cannot truly be explained in words. This is one of the most elegant remains of antiquity, carved out of the solid rock from the side of the mountain and is nearly 140 feet high and 90 feet wide. Archaeologist continue to unearth more of Petra even today.

Petra is also called the Rose City thanks to the pink color of the stone of the cliffs. As we admire the dazzling colors and rock formations, we will see numerous rock-cut thumbs, obelisks, fascinating water conduit system, carvings on pink sandstone cliffs, colonnaded streets and more of this once lost city. 

As a new ‘Seven Wonders of the World’ sites, steeped in history from Arab empires and Western and Eastern dynasties, Petra features an abundance of ancient discoveries. Nature and history putting on an amazing display together! After our jaw dropping, awe-filled, Kodak moment filled day, we check into our 4-star hotel and have the evening at leisure.

Overnight: In Petra at La Maison (or similar) B, L

After our breakfast buffet in Petra, we board our air-conditioned coach to the 'lowest point on earth' - 412 meters below sea level - The Dead Sea. This is not your usual 3-hour bus transfer - on our way we will see the site of John the Baptist’s settlement at Bethany. Beyond the Jordan, where Jesus was baptized along the east bank of the Jordan River. Walk in the footsteps of Moses as we visit Madaba and Nebo as well. This is a fully packed morning of history, biblical sites and education for all of us! And then on to the Dead Sea…

The Deas Sea got its name because marine life cannot live in the water with the high concentration of salt. It pushes objects out (as we learned in our physics lessons), which makes us float on the surface without much effort. Additionally, the mud along the shore has been proven to be filled with healing powers - which can be used as a face and/or body mask - which will you do?

You will have time to ‘swim’ or more like float in the Dead Sea, play in the mud (it’s even encouraged!), and soak in this extremely unique natural phenomenon. We will have a place to change into our suits and then ‘rinse’ off before we leave to check into our hotel. What a fun-filled way to experience nature! I can’t wait!

We check into our 4-star hotel and the relaxation continues. With a full-service Spa and indoor/outdoor swimming pools, you can continue to ‘chill-out’, be pampered and enjoy the awe-inspiring Dead Sea views. We will have a final group dinner overlooking this amazing landscape and celebrate the Journey to Jordan we have experienced.

Overnight: Dead Sea Spa Hotel (or similar) B, L, D

After a leisurely breakfast overlooking the Dead Dea, we have some free time to soak in the sites, sounds and possibly even squeeze in another Spa treatment before we depart. 

Take a swim in the salty waters of this lowest spot on earth. Experience the ultimate sensation of trying to swim, while you can actually only float. Grab your last photos of this uber-cool area.

Note: Please do not book your flights until we have posted the best times. This is not a location where you can just grab a cab to the airport so we will need to coordinate the departure very well. If you would like to spend another night in Amman, we can help arrange that. Hopefully you will be one that is continuing on from our Jordan to Journey – once the flight from Cairo to Amman is set, that will set the transfer to the airport.

Our amazing ‘adventure into the past’ wraps up with a transfer to the airport in Amman for our international flights home. We head back towards the city of Amman airport, which is approx. an hour drive.
