Known as the land of lakes, volcanoes and beaches, Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America. While it is rich in terrain, the need for economic support is dire. Nicaragua is the second poorest country in Latin America, with 43% of the total population living in impoverished rural areas. Of this, 63% live off less than $1 per day.
On this journey you will join 50 Journeyers and help local volunteers build 20 safe, sustainable homes for a vibrant rural community.
ADVENTURE, PURPOSE, & COMMUNITY.
Journey combines these three tenets to create one opportunity: a 6-day experience that connects your impact to a proud community and to each other.
Spend two days building homes with our nonprofit partner TECHO, getting to know the family who will live in the home you funded and working alongside local volunteers. At the end, you hand over the keys to the family and watch them walk in their front door for the first time.
Then head to the coast, for three days of integrating the experience we just had with facilitated activities, morning dance parties, group meals, surfing, afternoon yoga, and much more.
"It was one of the best experiences of my life...to see how a community that had nothing physical to give, gave us all so much simply by showing us unconditional love, and accepting us into their community for a few days as if we were family. I feel like I got way more out of the experience than the person receiving the home." - Ransford, Journeyer and Basketball Coach
