About this trip

Step back into the golden age of rail travel over Independence Day weekend in 2027. The Colonial Crafts invites you to celebrate the holiday in timeless Pullman style as we depart New York City on Friday for the lush landscapes of the Green Mountain State. Relax in the refined atmosphere of our art-deco style lounge.  Enjoy the rhythmic clatter of the rails as we glide through the scenic Hudson River Valley toward the quiet charm of the Vermont countryside. Our route traces the historic path of the Ethan Allen Express, rolling past iconic colonial steeples and dense forests, where we invite you to indulge in our signature onboard hospitality featuring artisanal locally sourced food and treats.

Upon arriving in Burlington on the shores of Lake Champlain, you will have one day and two nights to explore at your leisure. Passengers must arrange for their own lodging accommodations. Your holiday weekend is filled with classic New England charm, highlighted by a Patriotic Band Concert and Fireworks at the Burlington Band Shell in Battery Park on the evening of July 3rd. During your stay, you might choose to take an Ethan Allen Dinner Cruise on the lake, explore the vast collections at the Shelburne Museum, or visit the historic Fort Ticonderoga. For those seeking active pursuits, the lakeside trails offer perfect scenery for walking and biking, while the four block pedestrian Church Street Marketplace serves as the heart of downtown Burlington’s vibrant shopping and restaurant scene.

Midday meals highlight fresh, travel-friendly fare such as a turkey sandwich with maple mustard, a smoked turkey and Gouda panini, or chicken salad dotted with cranberries. You might also enjoy a warm apple and local aged cheddar hand pie or a hearty roasted squash and wild rice bowl, both perfect reflections of New England’s seasonal harvests. Dinner features herbed pork loin with cranberry orange glaze and maple-glazed roast chicken or Atlantic salmon, dishes that strike a perfect balance between comfort and elegance. End your meal with a warm apple crisp or maple sugar candy, paired with a glass of herbal iced tea sweetened with local Vermont honey.

The spirit of Vermont is yours to discover through its world-renowned "brewing culture" and local wineries, or perhaps through a nostalgic journey on the Vermont Rail Dinner Train. Whether you are sipping a local craft brew or watching the sunset over the Adirondacks from Waterfront Park, the region offers a perfect blend of lakeside beauty and history.  After a weekend of celebration and exploration, we will reboard our private Pullman car on Sunday for the return journey to New York City. From the majestic views of Lake Champlain to the festive atmosphere of the holiday, this 2027 Independence Day getaway will be a peaceful and picturesque journey.

Guests can tailor this trip as they desire: get on or off the train at any Amtrak station between New York City and Burlington. The pricing for each segment remains the same regardless of where you board or disembark. If you purchase a one-way ticket, you can easily coordinate the other half of your journey via Amtrak or airplane. Your ticket price includes all of your meals, along with hors d'oeuvres, snacks, and beverages. Enjoy historic luxury with personal care by our on-board servers. Your ticket also grants you access to the Amtrak VIP lounge in New York to ensure your journey is comfortable from start to finish.

About your organizer

We operate a historic railcar that's available for use throughout the United States. We offer scheduled and chartered vintage railway travel experiences. The Colonial Crafts was built in 1949 for the Pennsylvania Railroad. It has four bedrooms, each with a private bathroom. There is a shower at the end of the hall, a small kitchen, and a very large lounge area that comfortably seats 20 people during daytime travel. Your journey includes all meals and beverages served by our professional staff including a Porter, Steward, and Chef. The Pullman Company assigned this car to Elvis Presley in 1960 after he returned from military service overseas. He used the car to travel from New Jersey to Graceland, and then on to Los Angeles where he completed filming his movie, “G. I. Blues”.
