You will be collected from the Radisson Blu and head to the Maya Maya Airport at 10:00am to catch the flight into the forest. 1h45 minute flight from Brazzaville to Odzala-Kokoua National Park. Arrival at Mboko airstrip located inside Odzala-Kokoua National Park.

Wake up is at 5am, a light breakfast is served at 5:30am and the track starts at 6am SHARP. Unless it is raining, then we will wait for the rain to stop. 

Finding the gorillas can take anything from 10min to 3 hours depending on where their movements take them. They have large home ranges and can be affected by the movements of other gorilla families and even leopard and forest elephants. 

The terrain is relatively flat with a small section of deep valley. 

After finding and viewing the gorillas, we take a leisurely walk back to camp where breakfast will be ready and waiting. 

Afternoons are used to explore & find different creatures in the dry forest. 

This is the time of day where the trackers will head back out(alone) to find the gorillas again to mark a GPS point as to where they bed down for the night.

This is the area that we head straight back to in the morning to start tracking from there. 

The gorillas can be found foraging on the ground or even feeding high up in the trees on the various fruit species.

On our last afternoon we head out to visit the small village of Ombo- with a population of about 40 people. Here they will show us about the local culture and how people have been surviving in the forest for centuries. 

After our visit, we head to the edge of the forest for a sundowners and wait for it to get dark. 

A night drive back to camp is our opportunity to look for any of the 5 galago(bushbaby) species as well as many other rare noctural creatures such as potto's, tree civets and anomalures (nocturnal flying squirrel) - to name but a few. 

A leisurely wakeup & breakfast for a 10:30/11:00 am departure from camp. We will stop in the slightly larger village of Mbomo-roughly 2000 people-, which is about a 45min drive along the way to Mboko camp. We will have a look at the local bush meat & product market and take a small drive around.

All fresh meat and produce are harvested, gathered and hunted from the surrounding forest areas. Locals are allowed to do so within the first 10km of the National Park, with no limits in the areas that lie outside of the Concessions and National Parks.

After the village visit, we head to Mboko Camp for lunch & to freshen up/prepare for a not-to-be-missed kayaking & walking experience to our next destination - Lango Forest Camp.

Guests have the option to take the shortcut with the luggage transfer should they not feel comfortable on the water.

After a week in the forest, Mboko Camp is the perfect way to end your stay as it faces onto an open Savanna, backed by the rainforest, on the banks of the Lekheni River.. Stars and intense thunderstorms can be enjoyed and photographed from the main deck. The camp sits 60km north of the equator making parts of the Northern & Southern Hemispheres' constellations visible. 

The charter flight back to Brazzaville will usually leave between 9:00 & 10:00 depending on the weather. The last day in Brazzaville is often used to explore the local markets and cuisine along the mighty Congo River with a city tour. The most famous of the clearings in the Dzanga-Sangha Special Reserve, if not the entire Congo Basin, Dzanga Bai is a large open area in the otherwise dense rainforest where large herds of forest elephant, forest buffalo and bongo antelope gather, along with a multitude of other wildlife and bird species. 

Visible from space, Dzanga Bai (also known as the "village of elephants") attracts this cornucopia of animals thanks to its mineral-rich soil and water, creating one of the most sought-after game viewing experiences in Africa. Here you can experience flocks of hundreds of African Grey Parrots, a variety of hornbills from the worlds two smallest species - the Dwarf Hornbills - to Africa’s largest forest-dwelling hornbill - the Black Casqued Hornbill; giant forest hogs and many of the 10 species of monkey that occur in some of the oldest primary rainforest in the world. 

A 9m-high observation platform gives you panoramic views out over the bai and an excellent position from which to photograph both the clearing and the wildlife that visit it. It's not uncommon to have more than 100 forest elephants enjoying the water and mud of the bai at the same time, spread out over this 10ha area.
