About your trip

Embark on the journey of a lifetime this summer with Expedition: Humanitarian! Explore the diverse cultures and ecosystems of eastern Africa while volunteering with multiple Kenyan organizations. We'll visit Nairobi's local centers for orphaned giraffes, elephants, and rhinos. We'll also volunteer alongside local nonprofits in the Kibera slums and embark on a 3-day safari to the Masa Mara and Lake Naivasha Wildlife Preserves. We'll visit a local Masai village school to volunteer. Then we'll travel to Danai Beach on the Indian Ocean for some post-safari relaxation!

Throughout this journey, we will explore what it means to truly be human and how our personal connections to the world can create a lasting positive impact. This "internal journey" is just as important as the adventures we will experience. We will incorporate healing & processing modalities to truly immerse and be present in the experience.

Day 2

Day 2 image

Volunteering in Nairobi- Ole Sereni Hotel

We'll begin our African adventure with a day in Nairobi. We will visit the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage to watch as these adorable baby elephants work through their rehabilitation with exercises, feeding, and bathing. Next stop is the Giraffe Centre - a breeding center for the Rothschild Giraffe. The center's elevated feeding platform lets visitors have a face-to-face view of the giraffes as they eat. We'll also have the chance to roam the Giraffe Centre's beautiful grounds, and might meet a few of the centre's taller residents! Then, lunch at the world-famous Carnivores restaurant.

After lunch, we'll explore the streets of Nairobi with the Nai Nami organization, a local nonprofit. No one else has better street skills, insights, and stories to share about Nairobi than these former street kids who now work to help others in the Kibera Slums. We'll embark on a three-hour experience with Nai Nami youth and have the chance to volunteer with local children.  (breakfast and lunch included).

Day 3

Masai Mara- Enkorok Mara Camp

Departing from Nairobi after breakfast, we will drive along the floor of the famous Great Rift Valley on our way to the Masai Mara. Along the way, we'll stop at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint for a stunning look at the lakes, plains, and volcanic terrain that dominate the region. We'll also stop in the Masai town of Narok for some shopping and meeting the locals before continuing on to Kenya's most famous reserve.

We'll arrive at the lodge in time for lunch and then head out on an afternoon safari game drive in the park. (all meals included)

Masai Mara- Enkorok Mara Camp

Wake before dawn for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness a Masai Mara sunrise. After a quick cup of coffee, we'll head out into the park to watch as the sun sets fire to the savannah and the big cats take advantage of the morning to search for a meal. Then, we'll take to the skies with a hot air balloon safari that will see us soar above all of the action before setting down on the plains for a champagne breakfast among the wildlife (optional and additional cost). Those not going on the hot air balloon will embark on an early morning jeep safari. We will return to our camp for a late breakfast before packing a picnic lunch and heading back out into the bush for a day-long exploration of the Maasai Mara. You may also opt to relax at camp in the morning, enjoy lunch on-site, and then head out again in the afternoon once the weather has cooled off a bit. (all meals included)
