July 20, 2023: Maasai Mara Game Reserve
OPTIONAL EXCURSION: 5 AM hot air balloon ride. $420 to be paid upon arrival in USD.
After the hot air balloon ride, we will have a champagne breakfast and then continue on our game drive as a group.
Whole day game drive with picnic lunch in Maasai Mara which is the most outstanding safari destination in Kenya where over 450 species of animals have been recorded. Maasai Mara is a magnificent landscape of open plains bisected by the Mara River and its tributaries and punctuated by marshes and forests. This world famous wildlife sanctuary is renowned for its huge population of lions, is home to all the Big 5 and supports the highest density of wildlife to be seen anywhere.
In the evening we will visit the Masai Village.
Visiting a Maasai Boma, also known as a Masai village tour, offers a fascinating experience. Upon your arrival at the village, enthusiastic children and adults greet you with joyful songs and dances. Occasionally, a skilled dancer gracefully leaps several feet into the air. You may also be invited to join in the jumping and dancing.
Subsequently, you will receive a warm welcome into one of the homesteads within the village. These village huts, called Manyatta, are constructed using stick frames covered with a practical combination of cow dung and clay. The Maasai people maintain cattle herds, ensuring a plentiful and cost-free supply of dung. During your visit, one of your hosts will provide insights into Maasai life. While some may not speak English, our guides will serve as interpreters, facilitating the exchange of stories with the village elders. This presents a wonderful opportunity to delve into the history and lifestyle of the Maasai people. Feel free to ask any questions you have and capture photographs of this enriching experience.
